Hey, congrats on losing all of that weight! That's awesome! I also had a VBG (12/26/06), and would love to know how you're dealing with yours. What kinds of things do you eat? How much? I feel so alone...! Take care, and awesome job.  - Krystal 388/342/277/210

I was given the name of John Monk from a very happy patient.  He is in York, Pa.  It's the Apple __  __   Bariatric something.  Sorry I cant remember the rest. I looked on  www.shopdoc.com and found  Dr Von Rueden in Towson Md.   I started with a search on msn and found a ton of info.  You just have to make sure you know where the site is from.   Check the source.   This is one of the best sites I have been on tho.  (Obesityhelp.com) www.locateadoc.com  You could also try calling a Bariatric center and asking them where you could find one that is closer.  Check whith your insurance co if you have one.  http://www.locateadoc.com/surgery-guide.cfm/basics/bariatric -surgery-weight-loss    Good Luck!   The more info the better!

Hi! My name is Sylvia and although I cannot be of any help to you, I was wondering if you would not mind telling me about your experience with your VBG. I will be getting the VBG after I finish my 6 month supervised diet. I would appreciate any info you could give me. I never see anyone on this forum.

Hello all! I'm 3 years out with my VBG and for a couple of weeks I've been experiencing pressue at the site of my hand excision.  When I first noticed it, I actually felt discomfort laying on the spot.  Now it's just pressure.  If I  sneeze of cough, I feel a squeezing type feeling.  Like a musle contracting.  I'm going to call my pcp and will probably have to end up seeing my surgeon.  Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this?

I appreciate this information Lynda.  My surgeon does not perform DS so that is not an option for me.  He does do VBG so I was curious about it.  I am happy with my choice of the RNY but thought I would look into VBG.

I wondered the same thing. I came here to see if I could learn something but most of the posts are old.

Topic: RE: VBG Ruined My Life
I am currentlly 3.5 years post op on my VBG.  Although I have had the constant vomiting I have lost close to 100lbs and just had the excess skin removed.  I went from 265lbs to 160lbs.   I also realized that when I do vomit its usually a result of my eating to fast.. to much.. and not chewing enough...  when I cut all my food into smaller pieces and really chew I can eat a fairly decent amount and feel ok..  I knew coming into this that there was a high risk of regaining the weight.. but if you look at statistics I don't think they are really much different for either surgery.. ultimately it comes down to this... the along with any other surgery is a tool... often times we jump on to have this done without really dealing with our underlying issues of emotional eating, depression etc..  I have noticed that many of us who have been obese live with guilt and this making others happy at our expense.. because we dont' want to hurt anyone.. but who are we hurting most?? ourselves.

I know this is probably not what you want to hear, but I frequent this board a lot and this is the first time I am posting to it.   I had a variation of the VBG in 1997 called the SRVG and it is very similar to the VBG.  I had excellent results the first year after surgery, but I have since sustained ring failure (which is common with the band in VBG) and have gained every one of my 102lbs back, plus some.  I am currently fighting with my insurance company to have a revision done to the DS. I originally chose the SRVG because even tho' I knew I needed to have WLS because I couldn't do it on my own, I didn't want to rearrange my innards, so I thought the SRVG was a good compromise.  And it was... at first, but unfortunately it wasn't a lasting 'fix.'   Just make sure if you are going to invest the time, the money, the pain from surgery, etc that you do research on ALL WLS procedures, evaluate your life, your eating habits, what sabotages your weight loss efforts and then choose a surgery that best fits you.   Good luck with whichever procedure you decide to have!
