Topic: RE: I am scheduled for an open RNY, but thinking about VBG
for me here in ontario, the hospital stay for me was 5 days. it is a slower weight loss have to look after your diet a bit better, you can snack on sugars i believe because u dont have your inards rearanged.. the weight loss is the same for the first 6 months as it is with RNY. you dont have the malabsorbation with VBG, YOu dont have the dumping and the vitamins you take may not be as many in the long run as you dont have more vitamin dificiancies..... talk to you doctor before you go in because u want the best one for you and the more information u have about the surgeries the better informed decision u can make. Best of luck Paula VBG NOvember 1st 2005 -13lbs so far and counting

Topic: RE: Vomitting
I am 3 years post op and in the beginning [for about 2 years] I had the same problem with scrambled or boiled eggs, white meat chicken, bread, and tortillas. Try eating soft boiled or over easy eggs...and try eating dark meat chicken. I still have a hard time with tortillas, and white meat chicken. And yes, some days I was able to eat some of these things with no problem, but mostly I couldn't. Trial and error. Good luck. Val

Topic: RE: I am home now
Hi Paula, So glad to hear you are home and doing well. Isn't Bowmanville hospital awesome. I hope your experience there was a good as mine. The nurses were very good to me. How are you feeling 8 days out? Make sure you get your rest. I remeber feeling very weak for the first few weeks, but it does get better. Anyway, when you are up to it, let us know how you are doing. Topic: RE: Pain...
Hi, you probably aren't in pain anymore, but what you probably had was a residual pain from the surgery. They told me I would have this (and boy did I-- felt like I was being stabbed from behind straight through with a sword!). It's from them stretching your ribcage up and out!

Topic: RE: Vertical gastrectomy
i'm thinking about the vertical gastrectomy now. i'm not going to do the lap band. a dr. feng called me from SF yesterday and we spoke a long time. he's very helpful. he kinda told me VG would be better for me because i told him i have no self control. but the side effects he told me about scared me. also, how often do the staples come loose or do you get fistula? that's gross. will the staples be okay inside you for the rest of your life?

Topic: This is happening too fast!
In May, I started thinking about WLS, but I changed my mind. The first doctor that I had met didn't seem to mesh with my personality. It took 3 months just to get a consultation appointment, and I was not feeling it. Fast forward to Oct. 18th, when I was looking at a local TV station's website, and I spotted a doctor that they recommended. Something about him appealed to me. I called his office on Oct. 19th and I got an appointment for Oct. 26th. During that 3 hour session, I learned a lot and felt very comfortable. I filled out the forms and wondered if I'd get approved. On Oct. 20th at 8 a.m., I received approval for surgery for the 19th of Nov. All I kept thinking is, "Wow, this must be meant to be!" Now, here I am less than two weeks to go and ready for a change. I surfed the Internet for websites that could help prepare me in such a short time and I luckily found this one.
