Topic: Trouble with Staples?
I had a c section in Dec 2000. My doctor used staples to close the incision. I had a bad reaction and infection due to the staples. He told me for future surgeries to NOT have staples. So my question is this... has anyone else had a similar problem with staples and does this limit me from getting Gastric Bypass?

Hi Jennifer...Just want to let you know that I am 4 months out and I have the same problem as you with the chicken and eggs. Also, cannot eat noodles of any kind. In discussing this in group, I learned a lot of people that have had the VGB experience the same thing only with different foods. Someone who had trouble with eggs, tried Egg Beaters amd that worked out just fine for them. I haven't gotten to the store to pick some up, but I sure am going to try as I am starting to crave eggs. Small portions and chew, chew, chew is the only way I can keep things down like thinnly sliced deli meats, uncooked vegetables, etc. Soups and throughly cooked veggies are not problem. The best thing to do is keep trying different things. Also, be sure to bring it up with your doctor at your next office visit or give them a call and discuss it over the phone. Stay on the upside as things will get better. Each month I find something new that I can add to my menu. Congrat's on your weight loss. You are doing just great!!! Granny Eileen

Oh boy!!!! I really hoped that no one else was experiencing the vomitting, but seems it may be a problem. Soups go down really great, but we need extra protein (other than shakes) My best experience is not having anything to drink for at least an hour before my meal. Then very small bites of meat (whatever the choice) chewed very slowly and very well before swallowing. Very small portion, too, and savor the flavor. If after chewing you feel the bite is too big SPIT IT OUT!!! Portion size is very important. Nutrition is very important. Remember those vitamins, and don't allow the throwing up to be the REASON for the weight loss! I'm down 80 lbs since April. My evening meal is very small because alot of times I just can;t hold it down, so I try to have a nice lunch. Since I am busier in the day I think the food digests better when you are up moving around more. Now, if you exercise in the evening maybe the bigger meal will be okay for you that time of day. Anyway, good luck, and try to eat because your body needs the fuel. Oh, and has anyone told you that YOU LOOK MARVELOUS? hUGS AND STUFF, Carol

Good Luck with your surgery, it's worth it! I had been given the go ahead for Chicken and eggs after 1 month, so i ate them for 1 month without any problems, then it started. That's where i get baffled, so I will call just to see what they have to say. I am able to keep everything else I eat down, sick of some stuff cause it gets repedative but it stays in. I am still losing, i've lost 62 pounds as of last week. It's great! Thank you for responding.

I haven't had the surgery yet, i am having it oct 25th The VBG... Are you still losing weight, how much have u lost in the 3 months? i would consider calling the doc, perhaps u are just not ready for chicken and eggs. u did say u could handle some pork and u are able to do water?? so i am thinking just not ready perhaps something that u once loved and were able to eat before u just can't tollerate... call the doc and or surgeon and see what he has to say. Best of luck! Paula

Topic: RE: VBG Surgery...Failure!
Hello Sue, I just read your post. What are "pouch rules"? This is the first I have ever heard of this. I am excited, is there hope for us? I am 57 and a VBG failure. I also want to get back on track and try to salvage whatever pieces of my surgery that is left. I had emergency gallbladder surgery in 2004. I had suspected a hernia so I went back to my surgeon just last month, which confirmed my fear. My surgeon is also a barratric surgeon. I am going to have to have surgery to repair my hernia. He has put me on the Optifast program to prepare for my surgery. Loosing the weight will allow me to have a lapro. and maby in the hospital only overnight. The optifast is drastic, but good money wise. My emergency gallbladder hospital bill wistled at the tune of $32000.00 and that did not cover anything else. We are self employed and no insurance. My surgery was very extensive. Anyway, My surgeon told me that my VBG surgery failure was not my fault and to not beat myself up over it. He said that the failure rate within the first 2 years is high, and if the surgeons knew then what they know now, the VBG would not be a choice. Anyway tell me about the "pouch rules"..... Thanks......Bea
