I started running as soon as I was cleared to do more than walk post-op.  Start slowly and work your way up. Couch-to-5K is probably as good a way as any to get started.

I started "running" (in quotes because my husband can keep up by walking really fast next to me, so calling it running is kind of a dream) when I was cleared for real exercise.

Right now I jog one lap and walk two laps on the track at our gym (8 laps is a mile), and do that for about two miles total.  I think pretty soon I'll bump it up to more jogging, but this is working well for now.

My biggest tip is to take it slow, because it is easy to get injured from running while carrying extra weight.

My second biggest tip is to do it with a partner.  So much more motivating.  And for me, I feel less self-conscious.  My hubs, who can do a half marathon in 1:31, slows himself down enough to jog next to me, and I know I go farther and longer than I would by myself.

Me too!!! I went and did a crazy work out before so I could justify 2 hours of TV tonight ( the last two days have been lazy tv rest days lol).

I enjoy running - its hard and my body usually hates me, but I feel like its one of the things where I can take 30-60 minutes to just let my mind go...it's like my mental therapy :)I find it ironically relaxing even though its really hard.

I didnt officially do C25K but started jogging for 30 seconds and going up from there. I think i ran 2.5 miles a couple weeks ago - took me 6 months to get from about 1 minute intervals to 2.5 mi straight. (when I say run - its usually a 13:00/mile pace)

I"m thinking of doing C25K with faster intervals though. I eventually want to run a mile under 11:00 but I feel kind of stagnant in terms of speed right now (probably cause im so heavy still ).

If you want to do it - start slow. Intervals are the way to go. I think C25K is a great idea. It can be tailored for your progress - you can repeat weeks when you need to. There are some pretty big jumps in there, so repeating a week isnt a bad idea if youre not ready to go  up the next week. You should look into getting fitted for proper running shoes if you decide you want to do start running. You want to protect your feet and it will make it more comfortable.

I joined Team in Training and started training for a half to be complete at the end of march! I'm in communication along the way with my diet and exercise people.

Saturday I did 4 miles walk/jog for a 16.1 mile pace.

I dont like running just yet. But I do feel great afterward! The feeling of accomplishment is awesome!

Tips:
-cotton is not your friend, invest in a few moisture wicking fabric pieces! Socks, shorts, tanks... Bras, even underwear.
-Body glide, get some
-get the right shoes
- dress as if the weather were 20-30 degrees warmer
-don't carb load like runners with normal bellies would. Keep a Bariatric friendly protein bar handy!

Just want to add to the above list that when you get your running clothes, compression garments are your friend LOL

I hate that show, but glad you want to love running. I hated it at the start, but now it's all I want to do! I look forward to it each day and use it as my "escape". Start slow, find a good program and some awesome music and start it, after a while it just becomes something your body wants!
