More Complex Foods?

Hey fellow sleevers,

I'm a little over 3 months out. Losing pretty well but having a ton of stalls. Woke up this morning and had gained 1.5lbs! Ugh. It's PMS time so I"m just trying not to think about it.

However, as I've gotten further out, I eat more complex foods now. I'm not just eating tiny piece of meat and maybe a few bites of veggies or chicken salad. Or a piece of cheese and some lunch meat.

My meals are sometimes more complicated like I made the Weigh****chers taco soup. I'm fine with the carbs in beans and I can't eat anywhere near a full serving.

Anyway, it's harder to track, sometimes dang near impossible. Do you think I could be getting too many hidden carbs and calories? Should I stick to basics for a while longer?

How did you guys approach this? Thanks!

I use the recipe builder on MFP so that makes it fairly easy to track meals with a lot of different ingredients.

But, I tend to have a lot of anxiety over the possibility of eating more calories than I'm aware of so I usually keep my meals simple (im not a cook so not like i have many options haha). Especially when I go out I try to keep it simple (meat and veggies) so it's easier to track/know what I'm eating. Just my approach though - most people would find my eating to be very boring lol.

How do you determine portion size though? Do you just estimate based on the amount of protein used and how much you can eat?

I tried adding my chicken salad that I make to it and I'm not sure how accurate it is. LOL.

I too use the recipe link in myfitnesspal.  It makes sure that every ingredient I used is input for the proper calorie and nutritional information.  No guesswork.

I use the nutrition data site as well for calculating recipes.

You have to be careful with meals like Weigh****chers and Lean Cuisine.  They are not really intended for bariatric diets or extreme weight loss.  They have a lot of trade offs they make between nutrition and taste.  You can easily eat up half of your allotment of calories just for a few grams of protein.  For example, in some meals they will include dark meat for flavor.

Your main defense is logging everything you eat.  Put the nutirition data in MFP if its not in the database.  Try to get as close as you can.

I made the soup myself, just to clarify. I am not eating frozen meals or anything like that. Thanks for always being there, buddy!

This may sound harsh........ But guess what..... I don't care !!!!!

I think your falling into a common "Trap"

Getting lax on your eating when you should be tighting up can lead to falling way short of WL goals..... Seen it hundreds of times now........

You do care, that's why you're harsh. I appreciate you taking the time to comment, Frisco.

Before when I would see you post, I hadn't even had my surgery yet! Bahahaha.

You're right. So do you recommend me just straight shooting it until goal, keeping my meals super simple?

I'm still not eating a lot. I am still at about 600-700 calories. Thanks!
