I met with my surgeon a few days ago and he said i shouldnt be counting protein calories in my daily calorie counts. Does anyone else do this? And how do you do it? Thanks!

A calorie is a calorie.....count them all. It would be a mathmatical nightmare (for me) to try and separate protein calories from everything else since most things I eat arent pure protein. But even then, I could happily gain weight eating mostly protein lol. Just track and count them all and focus on getting protein first.

Not that I think you should discount protein calories, but to discount them mathematically is easy. A gram of protein equals 4 calories. So, at the end if the day, if you ate 1200 total calories and 80 grams of protein, you would subtract 320 (80 x 4) calories for protein.

That just doesn't make any sense to me. Calories are calories. Whether you eat a cookie, chicken or a cardboard box.

But it's fiber so do you include it in the Net carbs?

Zero net Calories as it turns out.  It's literally all Cellulose.  I know this because I Googled "Calories in cardboard", and I'm both shocked and appalled at the number of answers.  Do that many people actually eat boxes?

Our surgeon says we don't have to include leafy green veggies in our carb counts if we don't want to because he doesn't' want us to limit them.

But you know what? It makes it all too complicated. I just count everything. It's no big deal to do that.
