Need to give up

beer and wine.  I haven't had surgery but I know a big part of my weight problem is we indulge in way too much wine/beer on the weekends. I am a big girl and can drink quite a few before getting a buzz. I know once  I have surgery this will be a HUGE NO NO. I am scared I am going to sabotage myself. I need to quit now, so it will be a non issue.

I know it sounds bad. I just really like to relax and unwind with a few drinks. Any regular/medium drinkers out there? What did you do instead to "lighten up" on the weekends?

The beer and champagne for sure. The bubbles will expand your new belly and be completely uncomfortable. With the wine, I was told the calories are the maor problem. My doc says wine after one year.

What I was told, however, is that if/when you have a glass, you wil catch a buzz pretty fast.

For me, as a light drinker, I plan on the end of the year before I have a glass. I want to lose weight more than I want to drink.

I have been in a social situation, had ice tea, and had a caffeine buzz! It was perfectly fine and people were more concerned what they put in their bodies, not mine.

Keep that mantra on a card! It seriously helped to repeat that before I went into my first social situation.

Good luck and keep the faith!

I drank quite a bit of wine and beer before surgery.  I was concerned about "transfer addiction" and decided I better cut back on the beer and wine before surgery, which was hard, but I did it.  Since surgery, I have not missed either beer or wine.  At 4 months out, I've had wine three times recently,  all for special occassions, and  it was not a big deal.  I had 1/2 to 1 glass each time, and it wasn't anything special.  I don't really crave it, and I am not concerned that it will be a problem anymore.  I don't really have a 'substitute" other than I knit a lot while watching TV in the evenings to relax.

Best of luck,

Carol

This is my fear, too. Your post makes me feel better. I am in therapy and hope that will help if tranfer addiction starts to pop up. I want to quit completely, and don't want to drink at all the first year either!

Personally, even if I could drink, I would rather eat my calories!!
