What did you eat on your last day before liquids?
Salads all day with meat in them is what I ate before my clear liquid day. I did not eat anything heavy. Because I had to lose 10 pounds before my surgery..so I did not indulge in anything heavy at all a few days before. I did however have somethings I did like a few days before but I did not over do it.
2 days before my liquid phase we went out to my favorite place for ribs with the whole family. My actual last meal before starting liquids turned out to be a Banquet TV dinner! Pretty pathetic after all the times I thought about what my last meal would be! But never fear, you will eat again-I love ribs and am able to eat them again now that I am further out. I just stay away from the bread and potatoes.

Word to the wise, have what you want by all means, but realize that if you eat a lot of carbs or sweets you may suffer the cravings of a lifetime for the first few days of liquids - don't be surprised. The first few days of liquids can be hellish for some but remember it really, really does get better after a couple of days. I found that ingesting something every 3 hours or so helped me make it through what ended up being about 3.5 weeks on liquids.
Sour grapes for me, I was on an eating plan since my surgical consult so I didn't want to have a blow-out last meal. I did 2 weeks of liquids only to find out I had an insurance problem and surgery got postponed less than 24 hours before it was scheduled. It took a month to work that out and soon as my approvals worked out I got a call from my surgeons office to start liquids again immediately. The last non-restricted meal I had was Thanksgiving 2008. Somedays, I get tired of eating a rather small universe of food [it could be larger but I can't cook and I'm not that creative so I end up eating a lot of yogurt, protein shakes and beans and ground turkey when I want meat]. But then, I look at the 100 pounds I've lost and its all good.
Congratulations and best wishes to you,
Rhonda
Hi Leanne,
I didn't get a chance to really scarf down all my favorites because at the med test / classes day at the hospital, after the last class they announced that tomorrow we would all be going on clear liquids and protein shakes. So on the way home, my husband and I went to Cracker Barrel, and I ordered my nasty, heart-attack-on-a-plate, yummy, favorite meal of country fried steak with white gravy, hash brown casserole, cole slaw, turnip greens, baby carrots and biscuits. I've been on the liquid diet for 3 weeks, and have lost 21 pounds. I mourn the fact that I didn't get to roam around eating all my favorite things, but I'm glad I didn't, and that I lost weight. My surgery is the day before yours, and by the time I get to have soft foods I will have had liquids for a month and a half! Right now I'm fantasizing about cream of wheat and cottage cheese...
What are you planning to eat for your 'last supper'?

It sounds like everyone did better than me. LOL I've been indulgiing all weekend. Yesterday I had a lunch of fried chicken (but removed the skin) and biscuits with white gravy at one of my favorite places about an hour away from where I live. "Dinner" yesterday was buttered popcorn at the movies. Today I had hot doughnuts from Krispy Kreme for breakfast and a very late lunch/early dinner at Olive Garden. The funny thing is that my son didn't care for what he ordered, so we shared my meal of grilled steak and pasta. It's a good thing because I couldn't have eaten another bite. I only ate one breadstick, too. I had an ice cream cone last night, too. I said a fond farewell to all of those foods as I ate them...
I know I could have done much worse. I'm totally geared up for tomorrow and Tuesday's clear liquids. My old life ends when I go to bed tonight and I'm looking forward to beginning my new journey tomorrow.
