I am three weeks out and am having a hard time having bm's.  Can I take a laxative/stool softener in pill form?  They're very small.

I would check with your doctor, but I have taken stool softeners all along. Not the ones with a laxative, but just the softener. Make sure you're getting in your fluids too. Might also try adding a prune or two a day.

I use a pill form of stool softener and do just fine with it. I am 10 1/2 months out from RNY. With the amount of calcium I take I have had to resort to a stool softener.

You could try something like Miralax, which I swear by. It's a powder that dissolves COMPLETELY (unlike Metamucil, which turns into sludge) in any hot or cold beverage.

Right there with you!
Called my surgeon's office yesterday and they told me to take Dulcolax to get things moving. And also to start using Benefiber to bulk things up.

Keep your fluids up too, if we don't, it can be bad bad bad!

My NUT suggested vitamin E to help soften stools.  I think it helped me I still take it.

Colace is a laxative that is approved by most surgeons for their RNY patients. It is relatively mild. You would have to check with your doc to be sure he approves it's use.

I tried docusate tabs but did not get any relief until I started taking miralax.  Wallgreens has a cheaper generic form.  What a relief when I found this.

When I  went to Nut yesterday i asked her about this as a concern ..she told me that each day i should add half of teaspoon of flaxseed to my protein drink each day...I will have my Rny on 12/09 and i am soo excited....
