HCG diet? Has anyone tried it?

I think the more you have to lose the more you will drop quickly.  I also was not able to drink soda while on it so that may have attributed (still need to get off soda).  I did find myself not hungry at times and I sometimes go too busy to eat.  I did dream about french fries and crave french fries.....did I mention I HATE french fries.  I cannot stand the taste of them and for some reason while I wsa on HCG I wanted some darned frnech fries...never gave in.

Would I do it again?  Probably not.  While it is great to say I lost X amount of calories and see how many lbs but NO ONE that did the diet that I know about has maintained the weight loss!

I'm confused.  Ok, so if you gain two pounds, you eat nothing but a steak for one day... and that's supposed to get the 2 pounds off?!? Even if you ate NOTHING for one day, in order to lose two pounds that day you would need to burn 7000 calories!  Not possible... and not very good from a healthy nutrition standpoint... so I'm a little concerned that you think that it's a "good suggestion for any diet, really".

I'm sorry you're having trouble getting the 20 pounds off... I know how frustrating it is... but as someone else said, that may be where your body WANTS to be.  There are a number of us that have tried all sorts of things to either lose an additional 5,10, or 20 pounds or to lose 5, 10, or 20 pounds of regain, and all of the additional exercise, calorie limiting/cycling, and carb denial have not resulted in being able to lose and MAINTAIN that loss.

Actually, you bring up a really good point and I will have to find out the answer.  I am guessing that you aren't required to lose the entire two pounds in one day but that you need to stay +- 2 pounds or have a steak day.  Maybe if you don't get into the range you do another steak day?

Actually he is definitely trying to push maintainers to limit carbs (probably innovative for the 1950's!).  I think that if you do eliminate carbs for one steak day you very well might drop the two pounds in water weight.

I don't think anyone was insinuating you should stay fat or are not doing the right things, rather, that our collective experience with dieting has not been successful.  What DOES work, whether you have surgery or not, is reduction in calories and increasing activity.

However, obese people, like myself, use food in an unhealthy way.  So for me, I needed a way to break my past patterns.  The RNY surgery gave me a cushion of time to learn how to live differently when it comes to food.  The restriction and malabsorption gives us time to try and change.

Continue to review these boards, but realize there is no magic bullet, or in this case, diet.  Only 4-5 % of Obese people that diet are successful in keeping the weight off for longer periods of time which suggests the need for behavior modification.

Good Luck!  You can do it!  Believe in yourself!

I think that a "reduction in calories and increasing activity" would be called a diet.  And, sorry, but that does not work for everyone and it certainly does not work for me.  I know that I have a hormonal imbalance caused by PCOS that makes it extremely difficult to lose weight.  Other people have other issues that are not easily resolved through move more/eat less suggestions.  Do you really think that someone would have surgery and/or try injection diets if it were so simple to fix?

I am so glad that I had my surgery seven years ago when this board was truly the most supportive place to come.  Everyone in the world tried to tell me that surgery was crazy, wouldn't work and may kill me.  This board was a refuge for me.

Okay, so it sounds to me like you are ALREADY dieting and excercising? Did I read that you live on the induction phase of the Atkins? And it sounds like you exercise quite a bit?

Would you mind telling us what a typical few days is like for you food-wise (ie including calorie counts) and how often you excercise? It might help us understand and give better feedback to have some hard data, since low-cal to me may be different than low-cal to you, and exercise can sometime even be subjective. (Exercising a lot to me is 7 days/week for an hour or more, for some folks that isn't excercising much at all).

You know, if you are truly taking in less calories than you are expending (and I believe you when you say you are) you may want to consider having some medical tests done, starting with your thyroid and some metabolic tests.

BTW, have you actually tracked your calories consumed vs expended either on one of those fancy new things that you strap to your arm or bra strap (which apparently makes calculations for you) or the old-fashioned way using pen or paper? Your doc would prob want to see some history proving what you are doing isn't working is the only reason I'm asking.

Good luck to you. Eating like basic Atkins induction constantly and exercising like crazy is no way to live long-term. And you must be incredibly frustrated. If you find out there is something up with your body if/when you see a doc I hope you'll come back and update us.

I know what my problem is (Polycystic ovary syndrome) and that is why I have always been unable to lose weight.  One of the reasons I am excited about the HCG diet is that some of the women on my PCOS board have actually had a lot of success with it (and very little works for them).  I have always had to do the extreme amount of dieting to not gain.  And really, in the scheme of things, a couple of pounds a year is not a lot.  But, it doesn't come off and I am really starting to get crazy with it.  I refuse to buy bigger clothes and I have a constant stomach ache from the ones I have!

I do not eat bread or pasta.  I occasionally (a few times a month) will have a little bit of rice or potato.  I eat very little fruit.  My total intake is about 1200-1400 calories per day, but even if I bring that down to 1100 the weight barely budges (and returns with the first bite of fruit, rice or potato!).

I do Jillian Michael's workouts four times per week (mainly strength training with some cardio thrown in), I run 3 miles twice a week, I play tennis twice a week, and I power walk five days a week.  My resting pulse is usually 48 which indicates I am training effectively.  I try to remember to wear my pulse monitor while exercising to keep in the 70-80% range.

I am getting obsessive about my diet/exercise program and it is definitely making me a not fun person to be with (just ask my husband).  This is how I was before gastric bypass and I really thought I was done with it.
