Sushi allowed
I started sushi at the 6 week mark per my dr. I know some dr. do allow it earlier for their patients.
I do spice tuna rolls but don't eat the rice or I do sashimi and can do about 4-5 pieces. I have also done salmon rolls and Ikura ( which is the large fish eggs) but again I don't eat the rice.
My dr. wants me to only focus protein and then veggie if there is room. I have to admit that can be hard but I try to remind myself it is about my health. I am glad I like fish too.
I do sashimi. I don't do rice of any kind post WLS (by choice) but I dare say I could. At home I make this "salad" that gives me a sushi fix: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2011/08/day-i n-my-pouch.html
If it's fresh I don't have any problems with it - I also love maki rolls but sometimes they do have too much rice relative to protein; so I look for rolls that have protein on the inside and the outside if possible, and also, if you are getting them at a restaurant, you can say "Light on the rice" - that usually gives me just enough rice for the effect without getting too full or too many carbs. One thing to watch out for is the size of the piece of the roll - with chopsticks it's tempting to stick a whole piece in your mouth, but don't! I learned that very painful lesson several times. Don't be afraid to cut up the roll slice into smaller pieces! Of course, if you stick to sushi/sashimi you should be fine!
I tried sushi at about 4 months out. Loved it. I can eat about 4 pieces out of the average 6 pcs the sushi place gives me. It's a nice option for me. At least I can order one roll and be satisfied. Smaller items on menus aren't as easy sometimes.
I don'****ch my carbs as much as others. Your miledge may vary
