HI - I am in stage 3.  I know I can eat fish now and also I am allowed brown rice.  Has anyone eaten sushi and had no problems with it?

If you can eat brown rice and fish, sushi should be fine.

Even if you have it with white sushi rice, it should be fine.  Sushi rice tends to to be fully expanded due to sushi vinegar.

If you eat rice that isn't fully expanded, the moisture of your own digestive system allows it to further expand and it becomes uncomfortable.

If you are watching sodium levels, use the low sodium soy sauce, it had a green cap on the bottle or in the little packets.

i usually find sushi has too much carb for the amount of protein. I would consider it a treat.

Do you like sashimi? Maybe you could enjoy that without the extra carbs from the rice.

4.5 years out - and rice is still a no-go for me. It expands and and it hurts.  That and way too many carbs.

just because you can - it does not mean your should.

3.5 years out-I can and do eat sushi about once a month.  I can eat about 5 pieces (spicy tuna roll), and then I'm done.....I love sushi.

Do you remember when you started eating sushi after your surgery?
