Fatty Liver

Does anyone else have a fatty liver due to rapid weight loss? IF so, what are you doing about it? I just had a partial hysterectomy Wednesday and the surgeon told my family I had a fatty liver. My family goggled it and it said it could be caused by rapid weight loss.  Any  info would be appreciated!  Thank you.

Actually many morbidly obese people develop a fatty liver from being severely overweight.  I was told by my surgeon that my fatty liver could be resolved by weight loss.  So you likely had it preop.

My surgeon told me the same thing.  It was confirmed by the liver biopsy he did while I was on the table.

I had a specialist tell me that almost all obese people have fatty liver.

Most fat people have fat livers. I see it's been 11 years since your RNY---have you had any regain? Generally speaking, rapid weight loss doesn't CAUSE fatty liver---it cures it.

Actually the OP is correct. Rapid weight LOSS IS one of the causes of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver disease. The liver has trouble breaking down all the fat being lost and cannot get rid if it effectively, causing the fat to remain in/on the liver. My daughter is undergoing a liver biopsy shortly ( for something unrelated to weight loss/gain or alcohol). Mayo clinic explains Fatty Liver disease nicely if you google it.
