D'oh! Completely misunderstood my surgeon's diet instructions!

Thankfully, I didn't hurt myself!  I could have sworn he and the nutritionist said liquids only for the first 3 weeks, so I've been dutifully straining soup, drinking shakes, eating SF jello and slurping popsicles.  Actually it wasn't too awfully bad, just boring.  I thought I could eat purees at 3 weeks post op, which would be in two days. Tonight I took a look at my nutrition notebook so I could prepare for the next stage, and what do I behold!  I could have been on purees since I left the hospital!  D'oh!

Quick as a bunny, I fixed myself some DINNER.  Baby food ham (because I have no meat in the house), mashed green peas, pureed peach, and the piece de resistance...PEANUT BUTTER.  OMG! It's crack on a spoon!  I could only eat about a teaspoon of each thing and it took me about 20 min to get it all down.  I have been craving something salty, ANYTHING salty, anything that's not chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry.

I plan to have my last snack around 9pm...a small spoonful of peanut butter, just in time for "Downton Abbey".

Better to make a mistake in the direction you did instead of in the other direction, eh? :D

In the long run you may find you did yourself a favor. It's better to not push yourself than to disregard your directions and going the opposite way.

Take the next stage slow in case something doesn't agree with you, you'll know what it is you need to wait and try later.

Yes, I'm sitting here so full from my 1 teaspoon of ham, peas, peaches and peanut butter. I had hoped to eat a little more peanut butter (it was sooooo good!) but I'm just too full. I can't even get my protein shake in.

Actually, yes, I have. I'm not sure if it's because I have been resting more and not pushing myself or if it's a side benefit of losing a total of 33 pounds since September.  I'm not using the cane this week and doing pretty good. I had an MRI last week which unfortunately revealed a severe complex meniscus tear. My ortho says it is torn in every direction, like a sunburst. So I have arthroscopic knee surgery in my very near future. I was going to put it off and see how things go, but i remembered that every time we go camping, this knee gets extremely swollen and painful. It requires a lot of TLC and at least one cortisone shot every time. From March to November we average 2 camping trips/ month, so this knee will go from bad to worse as the season lengthens. Plus, we're going to Alaska in June, so this knee has GOT to be better by then.

I just got my surgery date of Feb 12, for the sleeve. I am hoping it will help with my knees . Both need replaced, just had surgery your talking of on the left Dec 5, helped, but knee is gone it is bone on bone so I need the weight off to help and eventually have a BMI low enough they will do the knee replacement. I wish you much success. I will try to keep up to date to see how your doing. We camp too and have a a camper and only three steps up but sure seems like alot when we go too. Good luck with your trips.

Yeah, we have a camper too. Those 3 measly steps feels like 12 steps when you're going up or down. And I have a little doggy that needs to be walked every 2-3 hours so I'm up and down the steps all day.

Good luck on your surgery. I think my WLS has been the most awesome and wonderful thing that ever happened to me!

I am trying to figure out how to mark you as a friend. We have two dogs. I understand about the walikngthi for potty. It is a lot of ups and downs. Sounds like your doing well with the sleeve. Maybe we can keep each other up and positive. My name is Jo and I live in Dumfries, VA I am 62happily. Married, biting family and my grandkids are my pure love of life.
