Could use a few pointers on how to make an avatar, forum etiquette, and overall user handling.

Welcome, Amber! After making an avatar, tickers if you want, etc., you may just want to read, read, and read some more. You'll pick up a great deal just by seeing what's gone before. If you look at the drop down list under Forums, you'll see a "See all" selection. That will show you all the forums available, and you can select the ones you feel most interested in.
