Hi, I have a friend who also has had Gastric Bypass Surgery (as I did years ago). She vomits every day, sometimes more than once. She will eat three spoons of oatmeal, and she is full. She is able to sip water. She told me that she pees twice daily, and poops once a week. She is 6 weeks post op and has lost 65 lbs. She finally went back to her doctor yesterday, and she told her that "As long as you can drink water, and you are awake, you are okay". WTH? She is scheduling an upper GI, thinking that her pouch may be too narrow... Well no kidding! My friend was told that her insurance has to approve the GI first, and it could take up to two weeks for the approval. Doesn't her condition sound slightly more serious than hurry up and wait?! She cries every day..... poor thing. SHe lives in CA

How obese is she, because there is a big difference between someone 400 lbs losing 65 lbs in 6 weeks and someone 250 lbs losing the same.  Vomiting is either a sign of a stricture, or eating food she is not ready for.  Oatmeal is NOT a good food to be eating at this stage as it doesn't contain enough protein.

is she drinking protein shakes?

Since her doctor does not sound like a real winner, did she ever received the proper after care instructions?  Is she maybe eating too fast?  Is the oatmeal she is eating (not a good food to be eating) too thick?  Was she told the different phases of what to eat when and how much?  How much water is she getting in and how much protein is she getting in?

I have a co-worker who had the exact same thing happen to her post-RNY.  She ended up having a stricture and needed a procedure to enlarge it.  Vomiting every day is NOT normal.

What Kim said.  If she started at 400 pounds, losing 65 pounds in 6 weeks isn't a problem. But if she started at 250 pound,s it is scary.

Vomiting daily is not normal and IS a problem even if she can drink water.  She definitely needs an EGD done to check for a stricture.  Unfortunately, if the insurance has to approve it first, there isn't much that can be done about that except to have the doctor tell the insurance company it is urgent.  It doesn't sound like her doctor thinks it is urgent, though, so as Julie said, maybe she needs to see another doctor.
