ER trip.. Possible Thyroiditis

Hello all. I woke this morning with what felt like a bad swollen throat. Had a hard time swallowing and pain in the front of my neck. At first I thought I was having a allergic reaction since I do have food allergies, but I usually get hives along with throat swelling and this time felt different. Got to the ER after consulting with my regular doc and my resting heart rate was 120 and blood pressure was up to 159/84 ( after surgery im around 115/60). So after getting fluids, epinephrine, steroids and antihistamines, both the ER doc and my regular physician are convinced I was having a thyroid attack. They did do a CT scan to check for something more internal, but that came back clear. What is the probability this could be related to my VSG 3.5 months ago? I should also mention that both today and yesterday I kept feeling lightheaded and a bit tachycardic. I had a bout of thyroiditis  last spring prior to my surgery but this one still felt different. I've lost 84 pounds all together since starting this journey and I'm wondering if maybe I'm overmedicated now on my Synthroid? Waiting on some lab reports that should be back tomorrow, but this put me in quite a scare today.

if you had anattack prior to wls, I don't see how wls couldhave contributed to another attack

This one didn't feel like the first one. Mainly had pain with swallowing on the first attack. This episode my main compliant was throat swelling and pain in the front of the neck. I'm beginning to think maybe it's too much synthroid now. I'm unsure if my VSG may have aided in this one having different symptoms or not.

Medications dosages can change when you lose weight. I've seen people have to reduce blood pressure meds, diabetes meds, etc when they lose weight.

I hope you find the cause!

My synthroid needed to be adjusted 3 times as I was loosing.  It was lowered.  I now get my levels checked at least yearly, eventhough my weight is stable.  Good to stay on top of synthroid, wacked out, it can reek havock.

If you're on Synthroid you should be checked once every six months.  Having said that, if you have thyroiditis, the most common is called Hashimoto's thyroiditis which is an autoimmune condition and not necessarily triggered by surgery, typically.   Were you ever screened for thyroid antibodies?  If you are hyperthyroid due to too much Synthroid it can cause heart irregularities for sure.  My thyroid levels are checked every three months because of my thyroiditis.  My function has decreased since surgery in 2015, however Hashimoto's is often progressive.

Definitely good to see a specialist since you have a history of thyroiditis.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
