I have it too and am trying to learn to keep it under control.  I can't see the specialist until 8/31.  My surgeon suspects I have nesidioblastosis -- insulin-secreting tumors of the pancreas that develop (sometimes) after RNY gastric bypass (NOW they tell me!).  I've had readings as low as 27.  They are considering putting me in the hospital for a 72 hour fast.  Three days with no food?  Are you kidding me?  I'm hoping to just find a natural way to control this.  No, I don't want to slip into a coma, but I'm not up for having half my pancreas removed either.

Oh for goodness sakes!  Synthroid pills are tiny and there is absolutely no reason why you can't swallow them after gastric bypass.  I cannot believe you went for three weeks without taking your medication.

No - but then again, I look better without my clothes on than I did before surgery.  There really isn't any reason you need to show your stomach in public is there?  Don't be a slave to fashion.  A lot of people wear clothes they really shouldn't.  Be proud of yourself.  You might try a little Mederma on your scars.

I think people think we're taking the easy way out and getting an unfair advantage.  Little do they realize that weight loss surgery isn't a magic bullet.  It's hard work.  First of all, you're not going to feel so well.  You're going to have to figure out what you can eat (sometimes, this separation from your former "friend", food, can be traumatic).  There are complications that can arise from surgery too.  Would I do it again?  In a heartbeat.  Is it easy?  Hell, NO!

You do need to pay attention to what kind of sugars they are.  My yogurt is plain, non-fat yogurt and it has 17 grams of sugar.  Fortunately, that's all lactose, not added sucrose.  I generally find that anything with 'added' sugar that is over 4 grams will make me quite sick.  I'm glad it does, because I really still have the drive to eat.

Yes, you need a prescription for the B12, syringes and needles.

Have you had a colonoscopy?  I'd recommend you get one.

I'm sure there's more than just one that is good for the nervous system, but the one we have most trouble with is vitamin B12.  Folks who have WLS have to find a good way to supplement this.  I give myself an injection of B12 monthly.

Try mixing some milk in with your eggs before you cook them (assuming you're scrambling them).  A little moisture really helps.

Dr. Deveney is a great surgeon.  I had my surgery with one of his colleagues, but have lots of buddies who had Dr. Deveney.  Dr. D also gave the WLS presentation I attended at OHSU.  A word to the wise, however -- while the surgeons at OHSU are wonderful, the hospital itself can use a bit of  work.  Make sure you have someone with you at the hospital to go get someone if you need help.  Response times to the call button can be very, very long.

What surgery did you have, and what were you revised to?  I'm assuming by 'diet,' you mean pop or soda.  We're not supposed to drink carbonated beverages.  Yes, they do cause stomach problems (diet sodas can also leach calcium from your bones).  Not everyone dumps, but many of us do.

Sounds like dumping to me.  What's the sugar count in your protein?  I can't drink Click Protein because it will make me dump every single time.  Too much sugar.  The length of time it takes for you to dump on something will vary -- generally liquids will cause you to dump very quickly.  More solid foods with sugar will cause a delay in dumping.

Hope you feel better now.

Do a lot of reading and determine what would be best for you.  I think if I had to do it all over again, I'd have the DS or the sleeve.  The folks I know who have had either operation (not covered by my insurance) have done so well.  I managed to lose 85 pounds with my bypass, but I really wish I could lose more.  I think I too have a fairly wide open anastomosis.

I say do your best to get well by Thursday (you probably will) and then go through with it.  I take it your mom really didn't want you to have the surgery in the first place?

Nope!  I had a three-level spinal fusion a year and a half after RNY surgery.  I'm much better now, but it took a year and a half to recover from the fusion.

I'd choose the sleeve too.  I know too many people who have had complications with the band.  Actually, I wish I had had the sleeve instead of an RNY.

Congratulations!  Do yourself a big favor and stay the hell out of the fast food joints after surgery.  Will there be things there that you can manage to eat?  Yes.  Should you eat them?  NO.  You're changing your guts.  It's time to change your eating habits.  Eat real, fresh food.  Greasy goop from the places that don't have your health in mind is just silly.

Some surgeons discourage any drinks with caffeine.  I had full octane the morning after surgery in the hospital and have been drinking it ever since.

Sounds like she's jealous.  As we all know, losing weight isn't all that hard -- it's KEEPING IT OFF that is the big problem.  WLS gives us a lot of help there.

Hold your head high and best of luck to you.

Well, it could be the doctors in this area, as there are three or four different doctors.  I think it's just weird that literally everyone I personally know with a band has had problems.  Not that I don't have my own set of problems with my RNY, but basically, I'm 85 pounds lighter and fairly healthy.  I just want to be sure the original poster does her homework and picks what's best for her.
