My red and white blood counts are still low after Chemo & Rads. Since my RNY, I have gone for a B12 shot monthly, because the part of the tummy that handled B12 is no longer functioning (divided from pouch). But, sometimes the B12 shots are not available. I was wondering if the B12 tablets that quick melt under the tongue will work in a pinch? Do these type of tablets melt under the tongue, and go right into the blood stream? If it goes to the pouch, it won't help (as I am led to believe - hence I don't bother just taking a B12 regular vitamin. Anyone know? The quick melts are expensive, and the B12 shots are free (covered by insurance).
I am almost 2 yrs out from having the sleeve in march, 2011. I am a caretaker for my parents 80yr old mother and 83 yr old dad. I am single 63 yr old recently retired . I have a bad "habit" of grabbing cheese crackers many times a day to get me by. With all the doctors visits for them is hard at times. Last week 4 doctor visits with each one having an hour drive to and from. I had a lump come up on my neck. Family physician sent me for ultra sound with the results showing 3x 1centimeter each cysts on my thyroid. I am scheduled jan 15th with an endocoligist. I am afraid.... but hanging in there.... Wondering about others that have had the same or similiar..... also open for any and all suggestions!! thanks, Nancy
IMO- it may or may not. Directly - or indirectly i.e as a result of vitamins - minerals deficiencies. (i.e D, B's, C, E, etc)

Hello ![]()
I had just started my classes for gastric bypass surgery, when I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Papillary Thyroid cancer.
My surgery and radioactive iodine treatment was a breeze and all of my levels stabilized very quickly. I had no lymph node involvement, but as I am a Gospel vocalist, the surgeon told me up front if they had to remove both lobes of my Thyroid, that I would very likely never sing again. My entire thyroid was removed as they found cancer in both lobes. My voice was very hoarse for a while, but has returned to the point that I am starting to be able to sing again. My last two check ups have been great. No cancer markers. I had surgery in Jan 2012, radioactive iodine at the end of March, and was just released for WLS. My surgery is scheduled for 12/17. Please do not worry. This is not a difficult surgery, or was not for me at any rate. The most difficult part was being in isolation for several days for the radiation. LOL
Today I am cancer free. Carla
I got very dehydraed three weeks later, lost my taste and ended up in the hospital for four days.
Now I have low cortisol level and have to be on a low dose if prednisine. but they are saying that is not from the cancer. My mom had Cushings disease so this is a form of it.
I did gain 30 pounds but lost it, and am back down to what I was. So that is good.
I think my 95 lbs. weight loss will only help me, as I am in so much better shape. I do feel what I ate for my adult years helped me get cancer. In fact I always thought about it and only wish I had had the surgery before i was 63, my biggest mistake.
It is really nice to share and know there is someone out there who understands. It's hard to think which support group to go to. I am for sure going to go to my weight group when I hit 100 lbs., just at 91 lbs now. The best is I did not go back to food . At least if I am going to have a shorter life, its going to be a slim life.
Take care
