First on many Protein drink taste tests!

Cookies N Creme from Vitalady!!!  It was surprisingly good!!!  I measured out 4 oz of water (that isn't all that much) and mixed it.  I would've liked to have had it much colder, but I didn't really want to add ice....thinking that would make it much more (quantity wise).  Also, I wanted to try it with water instead of milk, just in case lactose intolerance comes into play.  I know tastes can/may/will change post op, so I'm sticking with samples for a little while.

So, three questions:
1)  How do you prepare your protein drinks?  Shakes, milk, water, ice etc...

2)  What quantity do you make?  4 oz, 6 oz, 8 oz ect...

3)  How bad is it to get most of your daily protein from drinks?

1) Normally with water. Sometimes I add a touch of cream and extra cinnamon.

2) 6 oz cool protein shake and add hot coffee to it...never over 130 degrees.

3) VitaLady will say it's very good to get your protein in from whey protein blends because there is so much bio-available protein in them.

You know, we really need to get together and just experiment making new protein drinks all day!

I was really surprised at how good it was!  I've read that people mix them up, but then it takes them all day to drink them.  Am I naive to think that I won't have a problem drinking 4-6 oz of protein drink in a few hours?  I drink it pretty quick (like in 2 mins)!  Obviously, I won't be able to drink it THAT fast post op, but taking all day to drink it??

PS - How do you know if its whey.....or are all powders whey?

I agree, we do need to get together!!  It will have to be post op....too busy over the next 21 days!  Maybe that is best, then you can give me some pointers (especially on those abs)!!!!

Hi there Jackie,
How are things going?  I see you are trying out the different protein supplements.  On the DS board I have been hearing a lot of good things about the
Champion Pure Whey Protein Stack  ones, especially the banana scream, cookies & cream,  and the chocolate.  Plus, they are all whey protein isolate, not just whey protein, which as Gina said is highly absorbable and so worth it.  I am so excited for you.  When you come down to meet up with Gina, you gals give me a call so i can meet you!

Hi Jennifer!  Things are going good!  I haven't tried any of the Champion brands, yet.   I got a bunch of samples from Vitalady & a couple of sample from Unjury.  I want to try the Chicken Unjury.  Someone said you use ho****er and it tastes just like chicken broth, you can use it in so many things!!  I will remember to send you all the info when we get together, the more the merrier!

Yes I have tried the chicken flavor unjury.  It's salty but very good flavor.  I also tried it in cream of chicken soup and it was good too.

When I was first post-op, I made my shakes with 3 oz of cold water and 1 or 2 ice cubes to get it cold. Now, I can drink more, so I just add 4 to 6 oz of really cold water. I still drink 4 shakes a day and do so with my vitamins. Now it is habit that when I take my vits, I drink a protein shake. Once I can eat enough food, I'll back off on the shakes. As long as I have the 4 shakes, I know I've gotten my protein in for the day.

Wag more, bark less.

I'll have to try less water, then add ice cubes.  I think it would be more enjoyable very cold!  I tried using the water out of the fridge thing, but because it was only 4 oz, it didn't make it to the "real" cold water yet!  I was expecting it to be much more in volume!!  Drinking your shake to take your vitamins sounds like a great idea!!!   I'm stealing that suggestion!!  Thanks for your help!!

Hi Rhonda!  I know, the 25th is right around the corner!!  I'm actually starting to get a little bit excited.  I was scared a little while ago. Not of the surgery, but of my insurance co not paying for everything!!  I'm starting to get a HUGE list together of all the things I want to do before surgery (clean the house, do ALL the laundry, go shopping, etc...)!! The list keeps getting longer, but the time is getting shorter!  I don't get it!
I feel very comfortable with Dr Bonanni, I think he is great!  Hey, follow closely....I don't mind at all!  I've followed along with lots of peoples journey's!  I'll let you know now....I'll be keeping tabs on you!!
Thanks Rhonda!!
