Just wondering if using a straw after surgery with DS is ok??? I know they say with the RNY surgery you are really not soposed to...

Im getting ready to have my pre op blood work done, 'for a frame of reference, for my Post op DS surgery three month labs"
Question is, I normaly take one multi vitamin, should I quit taking it before the labs, so I can see what my labs are without any vitamins, or since that is a normal part of my regimine should I keep taking it?

I dont have a specific protien drink idea for you, but I do know from researching on here that everyone says to go to GNC for your protien powder purchases. The reason being is that if you buy something and dont like it, they will let you return it no questions asked, within thirty days. Obviously this can come in handy when trying to find a protien powder that you like.

I know your question was about vitamin D, and Calcium, "cant help you there", but if you dont mind, I have a question about your iron being so low? Im assuming that you took your Iron the way you were soposed to, so I guess Im wondering how it got that low? I ask because Im having surgery next month, and I was under the notion that if you take your vitamins, and drink your protien, and follow the rules, that for the most part everything will be fine. Im counting on that notion ...lol. I know sometimes other things can happen. Do you know why you have had a hard time with it? Sorry for prying, Im just more than a little nervous about my surgery next month, and if there is something I can do that could prevent a problem, I want to know about it....

Are you already taking a PPI, like prilosec, or nexium? Most people use it for gerd, "to much stomach acid". If your not showing
any sighns of gerd, it still might be worth giving it a try to see if excess stomach acid is a contributing factor..... Just an Idea, I thought I would throw out there.....

Hi, do you know what size bougie he used for you? lol, I ask this of everyone, still researching for my surgery next month. I tend to want smaller because I know myself, and want that retention years down the line. I know my surgeon is the type that will listen to me. I also will be asking for a 100, I have alot to loose, and want to make goal.......

Yes, I agree with Crazeru. This is a time to be focused on YOURSELF, and being successful. Its a time to be EXCITED about your new begining, with your new life starting right around the corner. Family, or friends that are being negitive shouldnt be in your
thinking right now. I myself, have never had to deal with family not backing me on this one. On the other hand when Ive lost alot of weight in the past, I had to hear about how I was TOO SKINNY. Give me a break! Really??? The reason Im even telling you this is that the more you are on this site, the more you hear stories like Mine, and yours. It really is the NORM in the wieght loss community. So dont feel alone in this. Unfortunatly its this kind of thinking that alot of over weight people have to put up with. As if being overweight isnt bad enough....lol Know that you will be taking the journey, like many others have and everything that your going through is normal. Remember it can onley get better. Ive never heard anyone say, " I wish I wouldnt have done it" NEVER.... Even those that have had complications say they would do it again in a heartbeat. Listen to me talk.... I havent even had surgery yet, mines next month , but I have been researching this everyday since last Sept, and I have learned so much from this site, and a couple others. Your going to do GREAT!

No, I havent. For the first two weeks of the three week diet, he suggest protien bars, yogart, chicken broth, sugar free jello, things of that nature. Because Im trying to loose some weight before surgery, Im taking it up a notch. Protien drinks, liquidfied soup, thats easier for me to stay on then being able to eat a protien bar, and have different things. I like a tight regimine.

Ok, Im three days into my three week pre op DS surgery diet....Excited! yah! Doing awesome, Ive already lost four pounds walking and doing what Im soposed to be doing, but Im also wondering what my protien intake should be. Thoughts everybody?????
