I Live in the Phoenix, Arizona area and I do seem to have flare ups when it is raining or about to rain and when it is humid. Any weather changes seem to set me off into a horrible flare. I hurt most of the time too but it is worse then and I almost die during the summer monsoon season (now). I hope that Arizona ends up being the ideal place for you. I can't imagine living anywhere that has  more humid and more rainy days (like I am originally from Nashville, Tennessee where it rains a pretty good deal and is very humid)..... that would totally KILL me :(

Topic: RE: need some help with med's choice
Hi! I can totally feel for you. I could not tolerate so many of the meds and at this time I am on the Fentanyl patch every 3 days, ultram and robaxin (just got off the flexeril because it was making me comatose and the silly docs didn't want to take me off of it because it helped my pain grrrrr). My fibromyalgia is due to a genetic disorder but the same treatments are used so far. I have been on disability since 2003 and I have to use a wheelchair to get around except for very short distances.

It is so great to find many people on here to share with regarding FM and obesity/WLS. I am hoping to have the Lap-band by the end of the year. I can't wait! Have any of you noticed any improvements of your FM symptoms with the weight loss?

Thanks for your comments, I took abilify for awhile and gained weigth on it. So far I have lost about 8lb of the almost 25 I gained.
I too have almost went to the ER and have found that life sucks less as I have been on the cymbalta.

Topic: RE: Question regarding WLS and fibro, chronic pain
I was just wondering if anyone knows if it would be safe for me to take a muscle relaxer, I have fibro and my RNY was on June 28th and I developed severe back pain my last night in the hospital and I still have it.

I have found that the weather does affect my fibro to a point. I have more flares and breakthrough pain when it's cold and damp or when the weather changes. When it's nice and warm they don't act up as much. It was suggested to me if I could, I should move someplace warm and dry so I am trying to get things settled here so I can move to Arizona.

I hope this helps.

unfortuantly, flares are unavoidable as I am learning myself. I am on Cymbalta and Abilify along with several pain meds. When I have the breakthrough pain which we call flares, I usually end up in the ER. I have found that hot showers help some, and heating pads help as well.  I don't really sleep much due to the pain being so bad.  But I have slowly been coming to terms with it, accepting that this is part of my life. My son helps me out as much as he can, I try to do things when I can, I also found that exercise helps with keeping the flares down especially yoga. Starting at first hurts, but the more you do it the better it gets.  I hope this helps you some. Good luck.

I find it really don't matter what the weather is doing. I hurt when the weather changes. When its really humid out i hurt more than when its just plain hot.
I am afraid of the cold weather that will be coming before long though.

Do you find that you have less fibo pain in the summer than you do in cold, damp weather? I find that I'm having less pain this summer than before, just problems with the heat being so hot in Virginia.
