I am a new post-op at 5 weeks out and just starting to think about getting back into exercise after a difficult 5 weeks (with an upper respiratory infection adding to the recovery).

I am very interested in getting some boxing gloves and punch mitts and my husband says he is willing to be my partner. Does anyone do this kind of work? tips? benefits? Drawbacks?

I also will be going back to the gym and doing aqua aerobics, aqua interval and aqua strength training as well as a little of other types of strength training at home on off gym days.

Boxing is an excellent workout.
One of the toughest classes I ever took was taught by a boxer and he had workouts specifically geared towards what he did as a boxer.

That's great that you found something you want to do.  Congrats.

I have seen quite a few of the cardio kick boxing classes locally to me, not so many that are standard boxing right now.  But if you check the local gyms you might be able to find a drop in class or two that you can use for ideas to tailor your home workouts with your husband.

I actually go to boxing classes.  It is the best workout I have ever had and works every muscle in your body.  All I know I probably burn off 700-1000 calories a workout.  Never hurts to get the equipment.  I'd say get a big bag that way you can work high and low.  IMO
