Core Training

Preparing for an Ironman in August and following surgery on my wrist last month, I am just getting back into the gym after five months of nothing. I literally went from IM Florida 70.3 to the couch!

So outside of the typical cardio associated with triathlon, do any of you have success with core training focusing on your stomach and lower back, glutes, hamy's, quads and calfs? My goal is to really focus on those muscle groups similar to what you would see with the olympic speed skaters. So the opposite of what most gym rats would want to look like.

In my mind I am thinking of some sort of circuit training program starting with ligher weights and tons of reps for the first few weeks to get back into the swing of things and of course trying to avoid straining muscles or legiments. But beyond that, I am writing the book. Any suggestions or successes that any of you have had let me know.

Thanks

Jeff

I have had minimal success with excercise. I would just suggest Liposuction, and you should be fine!

Look into kettlebells.  Look for an RKC instructor.  It really works glutes, hams, quads, core area. Also develops shoulders.  I have noticed excellent gains in strnegth and endurance since I began using them in May.
