WTH??

OK, now that I have made it to 6 miles and have 2 races under my belt , I figured the "oy my gawd, kill me now" phase of my running career was over. But here I am this week not even 1.5 miles into my 4 mile runs panting, lungs on fire, legs hurting, feet on fire. This is not fun! I was off my feet for a week or so due to back issues and I got new shoes. Could it be the shoes? Or could it be that in only a week I have lost all progress.  I did manage to run the race on Saturday, ugh it was the first time in a long time that I wanted to stop running and walk. Today, was the same way. Well today was just a bust all around. I live in WA state so I cannot let a littel drizzle keep me from running. Well , the "drizzle " turned into a downpour at mile 2 and continued (what spring storm would be complete without hail) all the way back to finish the 4 miles. I have set my goal for this week at 12 miles for the week and maybe 6 for the weekend. Sorry just needed to vent a little bit.

Some runs are just like that.

Also, it takes about 10 min. for your body to start producing ATP but you need it almost immediately. So the first 10 min. of any run can be pretty horrible if you don't do something to warm up first that generates ATP.

For my track workouts, I come early and do a slow 1 mile jog to warm up. I also do an easy 10 min. jog before most of my races. This makes the first part of the run go better. If that's not practical, I jump rope which really gets the metabolism going!

Andrea...

It would take 3 weeks of doing NOTHING to lose ANY of your fitness, so that's not the case. Perhaps you are going out too hard? Allergies? Getting over a cold? As Marie said, some runs just plain suc****ep fightin the good fight...

Some runs just suck!
Could it be that you are getting better, so that means that you are running harder and faster.

I know I expected at some point for the running to become easy.  Well it didn't.  I just found that I was running them faster.  That made me feel just as tired and out of breath as before.  It wasn't even a conscious thing.  As I got better at it, I was able to go longer, and my body just wanted to run faster.

Good luck!

Scott
