Another question from the newbie
Hopefully the women on this board will have some answers?
Among getting back into my exercise routine....hubby and I are also attempting to start a family (long back story here....couldn't when I was overweight....had surgery...needed to wait...moved and got a new job...wanted to be settled...found out I had a thyroid problem which could have led to fertility problems we were having....JUST got the thyroid straightened out since October) I will be 30 in December and as I said, am a nurse, so the time frame, in my mind is closing simply because of all the potential risks you take when getting pregnant later than that.
Anyway - if and when we do get pregnant are there gonna be immediate restrictions? I'm not one of those people who view pregnancy as a disability. I expect to do my job (er) on a full time basis up until time of delivery etc etc. I understand weight restrictions later on. But what about aerobic activity? I could potentially understand NOT doing rollerblading due to injury...but what about safe, controlled activities like elliptical, spinning, etc?
Oh - and PLEASE don't suggest I go to the preggo board...been on there before..way to many catty cats over that way, lol

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

The general advice is: continue what you are doing but don't do anything new.
I have a bunch of friends who continued to ice skating while pregnant including competing in ice dance and continuing with dancing until 8 months pregnant. Another friend of mine just did the swim portion of Escape from Alcatraz at 20 weeks out. She still jogging but won't do any more races until she has the baby.
With my first kid, I felt uncomfortable most of the time and didn't do much but with my second kid I worked right up until I had the baby and felt great. Oh, and I was 34 when I had my first and 41 when I had my second.
My niece has a lapband and she exercised all through her pregnancy but it was a lot less hard-core than swimming the SF Bay in a race.
You do have to play it by ear. Every pregnancy is different and some can be quite hard on you with lots of morning sickness. But most of them are easier than that.
