Will I be okay doing a sprint with a road bike?
I'm doing my first Sprint Triathlon in October.I have a Trek 1.1 C with clipless pedals. My husband is military and I don't work (not that I don't want to,I have been looking for a job and going to interviews for 2 years now, rough job market here) so it was really all we could afford,I still need to buy a tri suit and tri wetsuit. Anyway, reading all these articles on Triathlons has got me scared my road bike won't be enough. I want to try to do a half Ironman way down the road but thats not for awhile.

anybody can do what we do, it just takes grit, commitment, and time :) what tri are you doing in Oct? is it down your way or up close to atlanta? there is a good one in October @ lake lanier islands and another really good one in late August @ peachtree city (my first last year and VERY first-time tri friendly)....
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

It's down closer to me. I'm doing the Tri-Red Triathlon (October 10th)on Tybee Island, which is about and hour and a half south from me. Its put together by the Georgia Multisport Productions, the same company doing the lake lanier one. Depending on how bike training goes in July I will consider doing one sooner. I grew up surfing in Southern California so swimming has come back natural to me.The one in Cordele in August is close to my heart since its the Georgia Veterans Sprint Triathlon, I thank my lucky stars everyday I came home from Iraq twice, not only alive, but uninjured, and I always try to do what I can to support my fellow comrades.

You can rock is on any bike! 2 wheels and you're sorted. :)
Congratulations on doing a sprint tri. I'm a big fan of them too. Have you thought about doing any of the Danskin series? I do the Austin Danskin every year. Particularly like that it's a sprint and a women only event.
Let us know how it goes.

Thanks! I was hoping my first one would be an all women's event, but I wasn't ready for any of the one that were closer to me. I checked Iron Girl, Trek, Danskin, and US Womens. Personally, I wouldn't mind traveling to one, but with a deployed husband and a 1 year old and a 3 year old its hard to travel. My best friend moved in with us the end of last year to help during my surgery recovery and during the deployment, so I am so fortunate to have someone there to watch my kids while I train. Hoping they will do another all women's tri in Atlanta next year, its a 4 hour drive from here, but its do-able.
