Ummm - since I am so much slower than the lady that posted earlier - I would like to remind you all that I weigh 215lbs, am 5'8'' and I only started running in March of this year and my best friend is 5'5'' 165 and has been running all year...... with that in mind......

Alrighty folk - it's DONE! My race results are in:
Final results: Final chip time: 3:07:52 Overall: 17104 out of 20436 · Division: 1940 out of 2298 · Gender: 10224 out of 12917

I am SO damn TIRED I could SCREAM!!! lol. The bad? I didn't make my personal goal of under 3hrs and I did NOT beat my best friend. The good? I shaved 8 min off my previous half marathon time and I was only 2 min behind her instead of the 22 min behind her last time.

And now - the REST begins - I hurt an ankle, knee and my bra chafed me to bleeding for the first time EVER! WTF? lol. BUT - I will not be using this as an excuse to sit down for the holidays - this will be a rest week for me, but I WILL be back in the gym, hitting the weights

Awesome job!!  I can't wait to do my first half.  I am planning April.  Do you run the entire thing or walk some.  If so, do you do intervals?  or just walk when you have to?  What training program did you use?  Again, great time!

 thanks lady!!!

I did walk intervals when I needed to - I did not power up any of the elevations, I walked them because I knew I couldn't manage them and all the distance of the race.

In the beginning, I used an online training program that tells you the distances to train on and the days of the week, then I did my own program after my first three races and I learned my running body.  I have always been a weight lifter - the running thing took me a bit to get used to.

I am overall proud of how I did though! And to think, six years ago, I weight 386lbs and couldn't walk a mile to save my life....... now THAT is progress!

GREAT job!!! I think it is VERY important to not compare yourself to others. There will ALWAYS be someone faster, no matter how fast you get. Celebrate that 8 minute improvement and keep on rockin... I think YOU are awesome!!!

Thanks Dan, my man (lol) BUT - everyone who knows me knows I am insane when it comes to competition - no rhyme or reason - I just pick a mark I have to beat...... like my best friend.  I carry 50 more pounds but I still feel like I should be beating her.........

But I am FO SHO celebrating over here   and about to seriously REST - this was the first time I've had the problems I have now, and that's a clear distress signal from my body - I'm going to listen............. one thing I have learned while training for this is that at almost 35 years old, 'shake/walk it off' is no longer an acceptable medical treatment plan for injuries.......

i know ALL about the competition bug, but just remember that the most important competitor is yourself.  so an 8 min improvement is AWESOME.... congrats and rest up!
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??
