Cross Fit Workouts

I am looking to mix up my exercise and was wondering, if anyone on this forum has participated in Cross Fit workouts and what was his/her experience? I'm not clear on exactly what Cross Fit is, so I am looking for some feedback. I was thinking about going to observe a class, to get more of an idea of what it is all about.

I do Crossfit style workouts with a coach and people in a park. I don't go to a Crossfit gym and do their standard stuff. But it's the same exercises.

Pros:

The routines are different every day. (Routine is the Enemy is one of the mottos)
It's a short but extreme workout so it's very efficient, especially on the metabolism
Many of the routines have self-limiters put in them so you don't exercise past exhaustion or bad form (for example, in one routine, once you can't maintain your count with good form, you are done).

Cons:

Some CF gyms are kind of macho which leds to injuries as everyone is always trying to one up each other
