No need to spend big bucks. You can get a cheap player for $1.84 (https://www.amazon.com/Sannysis-Mini-Player-Digital-Support/ dp/B017K38R3G/ref=sr_1_19?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1487115574&s r=1-19&nodeID=7141123011&keywords=mp3%2Bplayer&th=1) I got a used iPod at gamestop for $15 which is nice and small. Only problem with generics is they are not supported by Audible, and I prefer to work out listening to a good book.
If you poke around at your library you might find they have a big CD collection, which you can download and put on your MP3 player. The only problem with "free" file sharing services are the viruses
