A few weeks beyond my surgery I felt hungry too. It does depend a lot on what you eat. When I eat carbs, it totally raises my blood sugar and I get hungry. Like the previous person said if I concentrate on protein, my hunger is minimal.
I'm just over a week out from having my surgery and I'm still struggling to get all my fluids in. I think now that I have a better handle on what my body is able to handle it will be easier to drink more. I was just so worried in the very beginning that I'd drink too much too fast. I would check with your doctor about the leg cramps though. That's probably the last thing you'll want to have to deal with right after surgery. I know there are some good muscle rubs and essential oils out there for leg cramps - might be worth looking into just to be on the safe side. If you decide to go with oils make sure you get certified pure therapeutic grade. Some bottles will say "cptg" on them. I usually just go with the do Terra brand because they're consistently good and you never have to guess with them. :)
I'm also concerned about dehydration as I get pretty bad leg cramps. Surgery this coming Thursday. On Jardiance a diabetes med which sometimes if I don't drink enough I get leg cramps. Likely I'll be off that med after surgery but still concerned. I'm going to make sure I do my best to drink enough. NUT said minimum of 50 ounces of fluid a day. Full liquid diet two weeks. Protein shakes must have at least 20 grams protein, less than 200 calories, and no more than 10 grams of sugar. She recommends Fairlife milk as it's very high in protein. I'm going to use Premier protein RTD and I just bought Combat protein powder.

It's not wise to let shakes sit all day (even in the fridge) so drink what you can and maybe within a hour or so but beyond that especially if you add things to it... it's more about bacteria than degrading protein but that too a bit. Can you just make 1/2 and make the other 1/2 later?
You can mix protein powder in a million things LOL check my blog link below and yogurt is one... http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2014/07/greek -yogurt-6-protein-packed-breakfast.html
Try sf popsicles, g2, jello, broth, crystal light, powerade zero, market pantry drink powder has good flavors to put in your water i use the fruitpunch flavor.. so good , good luck , since your out recently you might want to take it slowly i was the same as you lol :)
You can make protein pancakes, i sometimes put vanilla protein powder in my yogurt or in my oatmeal, definetley a good idea lol ![]()
I'm confused. Can somebody shed some knowledge on the protein powders and drinks for me? People keep telling me to double check the protein shakes to see how long they last before they breakdown because then it's a waste to even consume them since it is like drinking pointless calories. I don't understand. Does this mean that only certain ones won't breakdown? How do I find out which ones do and which ones don't? I can only fit so much volume in my stomach now so does this mean I have to drink the shake as fast as possible before its no longer good? I want something I can sip at my own speed but I don't want to be wasting time and money trying to drink something that isn't even doing anything good for me. I'm so confused! What is it that makes the protein breakdown and how can I avoid this issue? I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing right now and its getting just a touch overwhelming :(
also has anyone ever tried mixing their protein powders in with a greek yogurt? does that even sound like a good idea? all thoughts/opinions appreciated. Thanks everyone!
I did get some sugar free popsicles last night and that seemed to help a little bit. Seems like it gets just the tiniest bit better everyday but I'm already feeling impatient because I'm so used to drinking a lot of water when I'm thirsty. It is definitely an adjustment for sure. Thank you for idea and the support!
CARBS are not our friend
I hate logging food but when I did I was shocked how much I was eating and it became clear why after 12 years I was gaining. I HIGHLY recommend you cruise over to the RNY forum. Great support and fun members. Be sure and post on the What's on your menu today (Tuesday) RNYers? No only does this keep us accountable but I get some great ideas on what to eat.
