i just had my first meeting with my surgeon. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, and a few other things. My BMI is just over 35. I am 5'7" tall and female. I think my weight is about 228#. I will see the RD and psychologist soon. I won't be able to lose more than 2 pounds as I can't lower my BMI. I also can't gain any weight. This will be a huge challenge for me. The RD will help me figure out what I can eat to maintain the required BMI. I will do what ever necessary to have my surgery as the thought of dying from complications from diabetes far outweigh anything else. Has anyone here been in this situation? Honestly I thought I weighed more, I just carry the weight differently. Anyone know how many calories I will need to consume to maintain my BMI? I also will need to cut back at working in the gym, especially cardio.
I am am determined to have this surgery. Any advice is very much welcomed.
It varies between surgeries and programs. What surgery did you get/where did you have it done? Can you afford a nutritionist? I'd suggest finding one who works with bariatrics. Mine is valuable not just for the information, but also for the support I get from her. She has been one of my best medical advocates. She is amazing.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much...the life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully. -- Seneca, On the Shortness of Life
I am starting my weight loss journey and need to loose five percent of my weight before my insurance will ok me. I have a hard time getting all my vegetables. So I started drinking a green drink. It has more than a full days supply of vegetables in a 8 oz. glass. It tastes like your drinking lawn clippings. But I started this last week (9/22) when I was weighted at 383 and I got weighted yesterday(9/27) and I have lost 7 lbs. To me that's a lot of weight in five days. I have also been drinking my water.
Has anyone else added a Green Drink to there diet? I just want to see if my weight loss is due to the drink or my water consumption.

I am 5 days out and I might be worrying about this to soon, but better late than never.
I don't have a nutritionist, so as far as our goals for how many grams of protein, sugar and carbs are we supposed to have each day I haven't be told and have no clue. I was simply told high protein, low carb, low sugar?
Those of you who have this information, could you share?
Thank yoouuuu!
I had surgery last Thursday. I am finding myself really really wanting food. I am not sure if all of it is head hunger, i don't think it is. Of course some is.... but I am HUNGRY!
I have chicken and stars soup, I have been eating more broth, mushing up some stars and of course I havent been eating the chicken out of it... but I mean I need something that is going to give me some strength and make this hunger go away.
Yes, I am also drinking protein shakes. I am not sure how much I am supposed to be drinking though. Alot of times when I am sitting here trying to drink something or eat jello, etc... I will get this pain, almost like air or something.
I thought it might have been "my full" at first, but I am not sure.... Maybe I am drinking too fast? Because I dont even have to be eating anything, or drinking anything... and ill feel it. Almost like my belly is trying to eat my insides... ? lol
at a week out, you are going to be weak from having major surgery. Your nutrition is comi
ng from your body burning your stored fat which is what causes weight loss
I found I had to be drink things on my plan constantly. You can't drink too much right now, even with protein shakes. The pasta on the soup could be making you hungry and yes, some is probably head hunger. Hang in There it gets better

I LOVE coffee, decaf or caf. The word around the WLS world is that if you drink caffeine, in any drink, it is a diuretic thus making you pee out the drink. Making it a "wasted" drink, and not includable in your daily water quantity. They would much rather you save the space in your stomach for direly needed water. Also, I've heard that coffee is an irritant to our systems, possibly causing ulcers in some. My surgeons LPN says that they also say "no coffee" because some people decide to purchase S__________'s high calorie, high fat fancy coffee's, which is bad...instead of enjoying the simple cup of joe we all make at home. There may be more reasons, IDK, but I drink a cup in the morning, and my protein drink is:
Cup of decaf, creamer of your choosing, a scoop of vanilla protein powder...shake the crap out of it, add ice, enjoy slowly. Voila, COFFEE! YES!!!
Of course, it's up to one's own decision/experience whether to indulge or not.
I realize I'm entering this thread a few months late but I just wanted to add my two cents.
I have a drinking problem. I HAVE to use a straw! Navigating a filled glass of water around my MORE than ample bosom, I tend to spill my drink all over my face and chest when I go to drink without a straw! True! LOL.
As far as pop...yes, I said "pop" not soda , LOL...I drink a glass every now and then and have never felt uncomfortable, full or bloated. Even without a good burp. Though TMI it feels oh so good when I do let one out!
Weightloss phase is different than maintenance. 1000 alories a day on a regular basis for most people is too much to be losing weight. 100g protein is great. My Doc's mantra is: Protein first, then veggies, and then if you have any room, fruit then (starchy) carbs. He never says no carbs, just put them at the end of the list.
Every snack and meal should be protein forward, and dense protein will keep you full the longest. Also don't be afraid of fats, we need that too. Change up your food choices, we can get into a rut.
See the link below for the 5 day meat test...helps you kick carbs to the curb and get back on track...with protein first.
