Did you have these food intolerances before your weight loss surgery? When did you have surgery and what type?

The longer I am out form my gastric bypass, the more food intolerances I develop. I follow a Pescatarian Paleo Diet, but also I am trying to conform to a non-phytate diet as they seem to cause sever bowel distress, as well as I am trying to conform to the FODMAP diet for the same reasons. I am such a delightfully fun dinner guest!!! LOL.

I have seen data that show celiac disease and lactose intolerance are on the rise after bariatric surgery. I would add to that IBS.

Thanks for your thoughts.

BTW how did they determine that you have SIBO? I sure wish the rock star gastroenterologist that I went to had done some sort of testing. He did recommend the FODMAP diet as has been suggested by another community member here.

Here are three articles that I read just today and found helpful. They may be helpful to you, too. The first is on an IBS diet http://www.healthcentral.com/ibd/c/183517/167489/irritable-s yndrome-progress The second is about an anti inflammatory diet http://www.healthcentral.com/diet-exercise/c/896502/136397/c omponent The third is about healthy gut microbes and was my favorite of the articles http://www.healthcentral.com/obesity/c/92639/179590/obesity- balance-gut-microbes/?ic=edit

Again, wishing you well!

I am 12+ years out from my gastric bypass and I have ALL kinds of digestive issues, including lactose intolerance. Do not eat cheese and yogurt as they are full of lactose and will kill your gut. Take a good quality probiotic (see consumer reports here). And don't use whey protein if you are still using those. I use two non whey protein powders. One is a vegan protein powder. The other is beef collagen (I am a pescatarian but I make an exception for collagen as it helps my joints). The links that I embedded will take you to my reviews of those products that I published on my website.

Do not eat low fat. Sugar not fat is the culprit in obesity. Many of the Key Opinion Leaders, doctors who are experts in diet, are telling us to eat many healthy fats like fresh water fish, walnuts, avocados, etc. I just posted under the diet and nutrition section my comments about Dr. Lustig's New York Times best seller Fat Chance: Beating the Odds against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity and DiseaseYou may read my post here.

Good luck to you!

I have SIBO. Forget anything low fat.

low fat is not good... for you or anyone else. I stay low carbs.

look into low FODMAP diet (google that) plus google sibo... and diet for sibo.

I use unsweetened coconut milk or almond milk. The  only OK substitution for dairy- I found Kite Hill product. Not every WF carry them. My WF has some cream cheese. Anything else as substitution - is not really eatable IMO.

I have dairy allergy, soy allergy and grain intolerance,.

I tolerate some nuts, and some veggies.  Raw cucumbers, SF pickles, avocado. Coconut oil is great to fry or saute foods.. Eggs are great...

Nuts that my body tolerate are almonds, coconuts, pecans, some peanuts, and a few walnuts.

Fruits - blueberries are the only ones I can really eat.

Topic: RE: Best of the best

I can't tell you the "best", only what I use and enjoy.  My dietician recommended Premier Protein shakes.  They come in little juice boxes.  The recommendation could have been because of availability in my region as well as the nutritional contents.

It has 30g of protein per shake, 5g carbs, 3g fat.  The dietician wanted me on less than 6g carbs and less than 4g fat per shake, so these worked out.

I'm taking the Opurity multivitamin in the morning and their calcium citrate for lunch and dinner (I'm 3 days post-op).  The dietician said she's going to ask me to add b12 later, but not for now.  Iron also comes later.  They said they'll let me know.

Getting water down has been relatively easy for me.  I take small sips and can get down about 500ml in an hour.  I need 2L a day, whi*****ludes my protein shakes.

In the hospital, the first night, I was given 30ml cups and a glass of water.  I was to drink 30ml ever 20 minutes. No issues there.

The next morning, they gave me half and half water and apple juice.  Same 30ml ever 20 minutes, then they took my blood.  I think the apple juice was for measuring my blood sugar levels.  Not really sure.

At home, I just use apple juice to get my crushed meds down, but otherwise I'm on protein shakes and water right now.

For the water, I don't do the 30 ml thing. I just sip at it like the dietician told me to do.  I stop if I feel discomfort, wait a bit, then continue.

How is your water intake?

I'm 3 days post-op and I don't have nausea, but the thought of eating ANYTHING makes me want to gag.  I'm hoping this gets better.

My protein shakes are going down well and my water thank goodness.

Topic: RE: Stone Frying Pans?

I have The Rock frying pan.  I love it.  I'm a newb at cooking, so I can't really tell you why I love it so much.  I just use it instead of all my other pans, because I'm burning stuff less.

Topic: Stone Frying Pans?

Hi, is there any good web resource on stone frying pans? Has anyone ever used a stone frying pan before? I know this is a relatively new technology in the kitchen. I tried researching on them and came out dry. The only decent resource I can find is stone frying pans. Anybody have any health tips, brand recommendations, or other information? Thanks in advance for your help!
