I have incorporated some salads into my diet (2-3x week). It's usually Romaine lettuce, with chunks of chicken, tomatoes, black beans and corn. I use salsa as a dressing. I have a very difficult time getting meat down, but this combo works for me. I'm 10 weeks out from surgery.
I'm the same. I have grains/starches 2-3x a week, most of my carbs are from vegetables. I'm less than a year out from surgery, my calorie intake is 800-900 a day.

you're bound to get 100 different answers regarding protein powders. People's tastes are really different. My two favorite brands are Syntrax and Unjury. You might want to pick up some sample packets of different protein powders to find some you like - then you won't end up buying a huge tub of something you hate.
I haven't heard of that brand, but the two brands I use have about 100 kcal per scoop (20-23 g of protein, depending on the brand), so the 120 kcal per scoop in Six Star isn't far off the mark.
