Topic: RE: Anyone eating Salad or Cukes post-surgery

I have incorporated some salads into my diet (2-3x week).  It's usually Romaine lettuce, with chunks of chicken, tomatoes, black beans and corn.  I use salsa as a dressing.  I have a very difficult time getting meat down, but this combo works for me.  I'm 10 weeks out from surgery.

I'm the same.  I have grains/starches 2-3x a week, most of my carbs are from vegetables.  I'm less than a year out from surgery, my calorie intake is 800-900 a day.

Topic: RE: How many calories should be in your protein powder?

Premier Protein has 30g and 160 calories.  Plus, my nutritionist asked me to start using milk instead of water which adds 80-100 calories to the muscle milk I sometimes use.  It sounds like you're doing fine.

Topic: "FORKS over KNIVES" PLEASE WATCH!

I was sleeved almost for years ago.  As you know we worry about gaining your pounds back.  I had gotten up to 200 & was worried about gaining my weight back.  Wife & I watched on Netflix "Forks to Knives".  People this is the answer we have been looking for.  The information was so startling my wife after the show empty out our kitchen & threw everything away that was bad. We went to the store & stocked up on the good stuff.  Her weight & mine have been pouring off.  We feel better than we have in a long time.  This movie will change your life.  No more worries about our health & weight.  After you watch the movie look up the doctors on you tube.  The education you will get surprise you. For example, did you know only 6% of doctors get any nutritional training in school?  Please watch the movie.

you're bound to get 100 different answers regarding protein powders.  People's tastes are really different.  My two favorite brands are Syntrax and Unjury.  You might want to pick up some sample packets of different protein powders to find some you like - then you won't end up buying a huge tub of something you hate.

I haven't heard of that brand, but the two brands I use have about 100 kcal per scoop (20-23 g of protein, depending on the brand), so the 120 kcal per scoop in Six Star isn't far off the mark.

I cannot drink regular milk (haven't been able to for a few years)....I cannot eat ice cream (I am not a huge fan of it anyway---but if I want to clean out my intestines------just a little of that----LOL). I drink lactose free milk (which I only use for my coffee). I eat Chobani yogurt (although, it would be better if I bought the plain and added flavors to it or fruit; cause it has a ton of sugar in it otherwise). I can eat any cheese (doesn't that seem weird....but I can). Maybe you need to eat something other than "low fat"; but that is just a thought. Maybe that would help you with the weight gain (but I really have no idea about that). I wish you the very best. Prayers for you!!!!

The only protein powder that I have had that I really like was Lean Shake by GNC. The price isn't too bad and they always have good sales.....Plus they have flavors. I take Centrum Silver multivitamin because it has the required 200% of the vitamins that RNY patients need in ONE pill. I take Citracal with vitamin D for my calcium (3x daily), B12 sublingual(meaning it is liquid)-1x daily, and Iron with a vitamin C tablet (1x daily). I struggled terribly with getting my fluids in on a daily basis and still do. I was so worried about that, but never lost all or a ton of hair or anything or become dehydrated---so I was okay. They gave me liquid pain meds at the hospital (no protein stuff). They gave me sugar-free jello to make sure I could eat (although, once home I just drank water, mostly......and protein drink as I could tolerate)....to be honest, I slept most of the time (I am such a baby regarding pain). I slept most of the time at the hospital except the last day---when they forced me to walk the halls. Went home in my nightgown and got home & took pain meds & immediately went to bed.
