You realize he was just an actor, right?
Of course I know he was an actor. He thought he was God's anointed slayer of the peace movement in the 60's. Actors should stick to acting. Look what happens when they get into politics: they're as interesting as politicians who try to be actors.

When I was going to school in Ohio, they had 'mandatory' assemblies in the gymnasium (7-12 grade) for prayer meetings. My sisters and I refused to attend based on the first amendment, they had threatened to suspend us for insubordination. We ended up with some burning crosses in our yard (I still don't understand that leap)...
Religious teachings (of any religion) does not belong in a public school. I agree that history of religion would be fine, because that's history, not religion.
One more thing that saved my sanity! White noise. Something that makes white noise. She didn't sleep well without it the first few months or so. My hubby is a musician and has a studio recording equipment. He recorded a few minutes of him shaking her rattle in a rhythmic pattern then looped it over and over again to make a 30+ minute CD of this. We'd play it at her bed time and without it she cried.
They have a lot of things out there that make noises like that including bears and other stuffed toys. My hubby insisted on making one, though. He was like $20-40 bucks for something I could buy or the cost of a CD to make our own. Totally fine with me ;)
My friends say I'm "hippy" but my favorite thing was a moby wrap. SAVED ME! My lil one wouldn't sleep unless in it. http://www.target.com/p/moby-wrap-original-baby-carrier-natural/-/A-11110329#prodSlot=medium_1_4&term=moby+wrap
Also with my 2nd I loved the momma roo. it's a type of swing. also a portable swing is handy, as you can move it room to room easy and take it out on playdates. http://www.amazon.com/4Moms-Mamaroo-Classic-Classic-Black/dp/B007UK1CBY
I would also suggest a pack n play instead of a crib, or at least a really good pack n play for downstairs (if they have 2 floors) for napping. and as far as pack n plays go I liked the ones that had a hard raised changing table. and I prefered it to an actual changing table. Like this one> http://www.amazon.com/Graco-Newborn-Napper-Elite-Vance/dp/B005UV0UU4/ref=sr_1_2?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1397609849&sr=1-2&keywords=graco+pack+n+play+newborn+napper the new born napper was a godsend...
A carrier for later on would ******go carrier, I loved my carriers. they are great for shopping, cleaning, running errands, etc.
as far as swaddling blankets I hated the halo ones as they were too hot. Find a muslin material one like http://www.target.com/p/aden-anais-for-target-zooaroo-swaddle-wraps-4pk-gender-neutral/-/A-11219328
hope this helps! The stuff is expensive, just my suggestions. Consignment stores can be godsends as well.
I personally didn't use the swing I got. My daughter did not like it. She did like her bouncy seat, though, during the first 5-6 months or so. I breast fed for the first 8 months and I also had the bedside sleeper. I only used it the first 3-4 months, though. After this point she wasn't waking to be fed as often, so I moved her to her room & crib at this point, but it was awesome. Level with the bed and made it super easy to grab her and latch her on while staying half asleep.
Once she was starting food I loved my Magic Bullet. I used it to puree my fruits & veggies. Saved so much money doing this.
Those Halo blankets are nice, but only worth it if they are going to be late fall or winter babies. Mine was (born in November) but, I personally was an expert a swaddling with plain old receiving blankets. Cheaper. Like a PP said having like a bunch is helpful. I started out with like 6 and ended up buying a few more during those first few months. I could wrap her up like a burrito and it stayed nice & snug until I'd unwrap her.
A sleeveless sleep sack! Once she was moving too much to be swaddled I used this thing every night. It was so nice to be able to put her in a sleeper or onsie, then just put this over her at night to stay warm. I had a fleece one & a thick jersey one for the different seasons.
Other gadgets & stuff. I guess the only other thing I really liked was her Bumbo seat. I didn't have much else for the fancy things they have these days.
My daughter is going to be starting Kindergarten this fall. I am freaking out a bit. I can't believe this is happening already. i swear she was just born.

I'm sorry,
The "I COULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED" reminded me of the one non-purchased item I could not have survived without this song.
Warning; not all people will be amused by this song as it's got some rather morbid humour.
I remember one rather sleepless (night+) morning and then the 5 month old's not wanting their morning nap, the 3 year old being sick, and all the bouncer/swing batteries being dead.
I was rocking 2 screeching children with my feet (for over an hour) and breastfeeding another while trying not to cry and this song reminded me it wasn't all as bad as it seemed in the moment.
As an atheist & parent whose child will be starting kindergarten this fall this makes me thankful I don't live in a community that this happens, but also angry.
It is absolutely ridiculous. This is what private schools are for. How is this even happening in a public school? It is unfair to non-believers and to people of other faiths.
I agree with the PP about the history of religion, but all religion, not just Christianity. I'm sure you meant that with your statement. As someone whose taken classes on world religions & having earned an MFA degree in Fine Art I have learned a ton on the history of religion. Western art up through the last century or so was almost exclusively tied to religion. The history of religion is both fascinating and horrifying.
This though. Specifically a "Bible history" class is biased and I'm sure is just a ploy orchestrated by the owner of Hobby Lobby. Sad.

I'm not a great fan of Apple either. My husband is an Apple/Android programmer so he takes care of all my technological stuff which is a blessing because while I may be in my 20's I have the technological skills of my 70 year old mother.
Generally speaking my biggest complaint with anything Apple (from the laptops to the iphones (we've had several of each)) is the batteries never seem to last past 3 years. I'm not sure if this is the same as all such devices, it's just been my major gripe since you tend to pay far more for apple products.
Other than the battery lives, I give most apple products an okay (they are very user friendly for the people (like me) who have no skill with anything electronic.), especially since they started having the right click button.
