O.T. - Anyone know how to fill out ON divorce forms??
Hi All,
I realized yesterday that I have been separated for 9.5 months and that it was time to fill out the forms so they could be filed at one year. My Ex doesn't want to get divorced, he just wants to stay separated for financial reasons. I can see the benefit from a financial point of view but emotionally I need to sever the relationship.
I went on the Ontario site last night to try to figure out what forms need to be filled out and how to complete them......It was very confusing.
I was hoping to minimize my expenses by trying to complete some of them myself, but I don't even know where to start.
Does anyone have experience with this they are willing to share? Feel free to PM me.
Thanks,
Nancy

Someone at work suggested this site to me but I never tired it. I think its gives you dropdown boxes and all you do is add your information. When you are done they send you a complete document that you can file in court. Worth looking into. Good luck

Several ( and I do mean several lol) years ago I purchased a "do it yourself" kit from s bookstore (might have been Chpaters even). It had all of the forms necessary to file on your own. A few trips to the court house, where they were extremely helpful, a few hundred bucks, and it was done.

There are a lot of DIY kits out there. Most book stores sell them and so do places like Grand & Toy. We took care of all our assets and child support and access in our separation agreement so it was painless to do the divorce. If you don't have all that in order already, you may not want to go the DIY route. Most lawyers have a flat rate for divorce so you could always call around and ask them what the cost would be and compare it to the cost of buying the kit and filing yourself and see if it's really worth the extra aggravation to do it yourself. It may not be as easy to do it yourself since he doesn't want to divorce. Mine didn't want to divorce me either and even though after 1 year in Ontario, it's no contest, they can still stall it. I chose to pay a lawyer to make sure there were no problems. It was money well spent to get him completely out of my life for good. I'm not sure where he feels there is any advantage to staying married for financial reasons. The minute he left, any financial issues were completely separate so there was no advantage to us staying married.
i just had to fill out all the divorce forms in one of my classes last week at school.
id suggest having a law firm do it, but im not sure how much that would be? they were pretty simple forms to fill out though..
