I quit!
Yep I quit smoking, 2 weeks ago today :) Its been great....I had my nurse/nutritionist and social worker meeting on May 4th and not 10 min into the interview I was told I would have to wait 3-6 months for surgery. I cried and it hurt. YES I knew she was going to say it and yes I knew I should have quit before (my hubby quit 4 months ago cold turkey just to support me) but something just didnt click. Anyhow as soon as she said that I knew that was that! I was DONE 4EVER! I wasnt a heavy smoker by any means and by that I mean I smoked once or twice a day unless at a social function and then it still wouldnt be many at all, but enough it enough. That morning May 4th I quit! My question is has anyone been told what I was and gotten there surgery any sooner? I have my internist app on May 26th @ St. Joes in Hamilton and im so nervous, but excited I can say I am a NON SMOKER!!
Thanks
Thanks

Congratulation on quitting, I know how hard it is WLS and getting healthy are excellent motivators. My GP referred me to the ottawa weight management clinic instead of the registry and the OWMC wouldn't even refer me to the registry until I had been quit for 3 months. So at least you can be getting through your other appointments while you wait for the three months to pass!
I believe Ontario wants you to be smoke free for six months, but I could be wrong.
Congratulations for quitting though! Even if it adds a couple of months to your wait, it will be all worth it in the long run!

Congratulations to you and hubby on quitting smoking.
Personnally, I was a failure at smoking as a teenager so I didn't have this as an issue. At the WLS information session in Ottawa, they indicated that you need to have quit smoking for at least three months before your file could move forward. At least they didn't cancel your May 26th appt! Enjoy the $$ you are saving in your house of two non-smokers Perhaps you can start an after surgery fund with the $$.
