Day 6 of Opti
Hi All I am on day 6 of my 14 on Optifast and so far its hasn't been too hard, till today. I work in a group home so have to cook and when I went in today there was pulled pork in the slow cooker and I had to smell it all day long. By the time I was dishing it out I felt like crying. Tomorrow was supost to be my last day of work since I had already booked holidays before I got a surgery date but im going to take tomorrow off also.
How on earth do those of you who have kids you have to cook for do it? My son is 19 so hes been having to fend for himself and has been very respectful about not really eating in front of me.

I'm lucky that, because I work 4 nights a week, my hubby does most of the cooking (even the other 3 days). It didn't really bother me not to eat the same food as them. I just kept my 'eyes on the prize' ... surgery.
My kids are old enough to get their own lunch and breakfast as well (11 and 9). Plus, they were in school all day so I only had to worry about myself.
I must say, though, when DH brought in the bbq'd sausages, I did stand over them and inhale deeply .. several times.

OMG, pulled pork! Well let me tell you I was on Opti for 2 weeks, then surgery and now on full fluids for 2 weeks. I had to go back to see Dr. Reed today so I weighed myself. I am down 35 pounds....
I still can't believe, although I feel just amazing and there is a lot of room in my clothes.
I remember at WW, they used to say, a minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips, so very true isn't it.
Your son is old enough to take care of himself, and what a great example you are showing him, by taking care of yourself.
The opti gets better every day, and you feel full, really, and before you know it, you too will be down 35 pounds thinking how easy it was.
Take good care, and Dr. Reed is the best!

Thanks as I said it hasn't been easy but hasn't been overly hard up till today. I just keep thinking its one more step to taking back my life from this weight that has held me back.
It was just so very difficult today and I guess I thought since I had made it to day 6 I was going to have an easy time of it so it snuck up and hit me hard today.
The good news is im down 7 lbs since I started Opti and overall down 30

That's good the amount you're down. I can only imagine how hard it must be on opti. I will do pretty good once I reach that stage I think because hubby is a truck driver and gone most of the time on weekdays. Not only that he's very supportive and won't eat something if I'm raving it. Also, now when he's on the road I normally don't each much.
Keep up the awesome work and good luck on your jourey.

Sometimes you just put one foot in front of the other, even if you don't know where you're going.

I am on day 12 of 21 on optifast. Before the start of optifast, I made dinners for my husband and put them in the freezer. I told my family that there was no more Sunday dinners for a while. My husband and I have our meals together. Every Friday we go out for dinner with my family and it has not bothered me sitting there while they eat. I am looking at the big picture all the time. Optifast has been a very easy adjustment.
Joanne.... I am on day 8 of 14 with the Optifast as well. I have found it not to bad. I am at the cottage on holidays and have found that if I cook everyone these great meals I feel better than not seeing food at all. Not sure must must be just that it's keeping me busy. We will hang in there together were half way there, just think the reward is going to be awesome!!!! Take care...
Thanks and acually till now I have been able to make dinners at work and not have it bother me. Was easy when it was something I hated like salmon casserole...the smell made me want to heave so no hunger LOL I think it was yesterday having to smell it for hours or I was just having a bad day im not sure. I have been to the grocery store a few times and didn't bother me then either.
Where is your surgery?

Hi Joanne,
When I was on Optifast in June, I still cooked for my hubby and 2 kids (3 & 6). I didn't have much problem sticking to the shake. And when they ate supper, I either had my shake, or enjoyed a SF jello, so that I coudl eat with them. I was working, so if I had anything on like pulled pork, I didn't smell it in my slow cooker until I got home. Since Optifast isn't my favorite meal, I just kept my eyes on the prize and enjoyed my treats (SF Jello).
Just remember, Optifast is not forever.
