SURGERY DATE SET, OPINIONS ON DR. ANVARI
I had surgery at the same hospital and though I had Dr. Hong, I heard many good things about Dr. Anvari from the other patients. He was the first surgeon assigned to my file, and at that time, I did a lot of research online. I figured "If the man can preform a sugery using computer technology and robotics from Hamilton on a man in Northern Ontario, then I would feel completely comfortable being in his hands for my RNY.
Truthfully, you may or may not meet him prior to surgery, it just depends on which one of them is taking clinic appointments. Also, if your experience is anything like mine was, you'll likely see his interns afterwards. I met Dr. Hong for all of 5 minutes, and haven't seen him since. The nurse and dietician have handled all of my post-op care.

Congrats on your surgery date! I've heard nothing but good things about Anvari, leader in his specialty and all that. I'm sure you will be in very capable hands!

Surgery JAN. 19th, 2012 - Down 120 lbs & 75 inches @ my last Weigh in!!!!
Two of the ladies from my support group had him.. one met him while being wheeled in and the other didn't meet him til after her surgery.
I've heard he's a tad arrogant but VERY qualified, for myself it was pertinant that I be able to speak to my surgeon beforehand and ask them the list of questions I had LOL
For others that's not a priority.. but yes I've heard and read that he's a very skilled surgeon.

A few years ago I read an article about dr. Anvari. He is the king or one of the most respected laparscopic surgeons in Ontario. I also heard him speak at the Wharton clinic and I would have put my body into his Hans that same day if it was possible. I met with dr Gmora today and regardless of who does my surgery I know I am in great hands at st joe's.
