Ooops, I kind of hurt myself last night...did this happen to any of you?

Today I am 9 days post-op. And up until last night at 10pm, I have been doing great...fantastic really.

Well last night, as I was getting into bed...I did so with a little less care than I usually do. Usually I am very cognizant of my movements getting onto the bed. Last night, being that I was tired and not paying attention, I sort of got into bed too quickly and all of a sudden I had this very intense sharp knife like pain on my left side, in between the two incisions that are closest to my left side. Same side that has been the most tender all along.

This pain was worse than anything I have felt since I woke from surgery. Sharp knife pain. I am thinking that perhaps I have torn a muscle. I am only comfortable if I am laying down flat, or standing semi-straight.

Luckily I am a back sleeper, so I slept flat on my back and didn't move for 11hrs. I very carefully got out of bed this morning, and called the Nurse Navigator. She said take your pain meds every 4 hours and rest the muscle, only move around a little bit, and she will call me back at 3pm today. If it starts to get swollen, or my stomach gets really hard, or I run a fever, or a couple other things than I gotta go to the nearest hospital.

But it's not like I fell down on ice outside, if anything I kinda fell into a soft bed...and maybe twisted slightly as I went down... it's gotta be a torn muscle or something right?

Anyone else have anything similiar happen to them?

And ofcourse, I am furious with myself for not being more careful and letting this happen... trying to forgive myself, but ya'know...

Hey Toni

I totally hear ya on kicking yourself... but its bound to happen at some point! dont be so hard on yourself. I'm sure you will start to feel better soon.... and I doubt you will need to go to the hospital- sounds like you just tugged on something that was tender! AND I totally hear you on the lower left side.... that is the only tender spot for me too! my belly button incision and my left incision has some pain still, but everywhere else is fine. I'm still feeling very tight and crampy at times, so I'm hoping that will go way with time and rest. TAKE IT EASY!! but im sure you know that :)

I don't think you have torn anything, I had the same pain getting in and out of bed. Take your pain meds every 4 hours and it will get better.

From the day of my srugery i had extreme pain in the same area you describe. For me it lasted for 2-3 weeks postop and then started again when i got a cold at 3 weeks postop. It felt like a muscle was pulling apart. When i saw the surgeon for my one month followup i asked him about it and he told me that this is the exact spot where they put a very large, tight suture to pull the muscle back together and that it starts to disolve about 4-5 weeks post op. Since then i have had no pain....this may be the same thing you are experiencing. I really hope you are otherwise doing well....for me it has been an amazing ride....have never felt so well in years. Wishing you all the best.

Thanks Charolli for sharing this, I will keep it in mind... because whatever is going on inside me, I KNOW it is muscular... Did you also have localized swelling in that area? My swelling only seems to be in that spot, everything else has settled down nicely.

For the first week and a half home from the hospital I woke up in the middle of the night in a lot of pain. I'm notorious for moving a lot in my sleep, so while sleeping I'd try and flip on my side or stomach and the pain would wake me up. It would be intense and it would make me nauseous.

They told us to be careful, but they also said we're not made of glass. I think the intense pain protects us from actually doing damage. Like you said, sliding into a soft bed carelessly isn't really what will break you,

Good luck though, I'm sure all is well!

I am 8 days post-op and for the past 3 days I have been dealing with a pulled groin muscle which I think I got for either over compansated for my right side which is more sore or I pulled it in bed trying to get into a comfortable postition.

Makes it difficult to get my daily waik in as the treatment is anti-inflamatory (which I can't take)  and big time rest.  I have been so bored sitting around all day
