Thoughts on first week.
Well, It has been just about a week since surgery.
My first thoughts have been that my recovery is going well. The pain is manageable without opiates or Tylenol. It still hurts but I can deal with it.
Second, I am a side sleeper and the incisions have forced me to sleep on my back. Thank God for my CPAP machine, else I'd snore the house awake. I have lost over 50 lbs since starting Optifast and it makes my CPAP mask fit worse causing sores on the bridge of my nose - Ouch!
Third, keeping up with drinking, eating, drugs and supplements is tough. It requires an impressive amount of mindfulness that is difficult to maintain when taking in so few calories.
Fourth, Eating has been surprisingly easy. I am carefull about portion size and timing to ensure everything goes/stays down well. I really like mushrooms soup with protien powder - Yummy!
Fifth, I knew that aenesthia cause a whole whack of odd side effects but I had never know about mid night insomnia. I wake up at 2:30 am almost every night and I am up for at least an hour. It sucks.
Lastly, I am still happynto have gotten the surgery. I just realize that I have my own challenges to face. thank God for t this surgery.

Glad to hear from you!!!
I love the idea of your soup... I am having a terrible time with protein.
Even though you are having issues it's nice to you are still positive!!

Dave I have to agree that opiates where my BFF post op lol. To bad they sent me home with such a small bottle . Well should truth be told I ended up having leftovers so I wasn't that much of an opiate freak...
Really glad to hear you are doing well. 50 lbs gone forever...Congrats
Ann
In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.
Surgery July 22, 2011 Starting weight 270 128 lbs lost Today's weight 142 lbs Ann
The opiates was a stupid typo. I haven't had any in days.
The insomnia is also likely due to the huge move my wife and I got ourselves into.
I have been chronically underemployed in Sault Ste. Marie. Nepotism runs deep here. I was offered a job and salary back home in Saskatchewan 7 days before surgery. i couldn't say No. My salary is twice what my wife made for the last four years, the company is paying 100 percent of our moviing expenses and we get to be within 40 km of our families. We also get to attend Sask 'Riders games too. Luckily there is a bariatric center in Regina that should be able to take care of follow up visits, and my mother-in-law is a GP and can make the referrals.
It is a bittersweet move for us. We really didn't want to leave but the situation was becoming untenable with a second baby on the way.

Hi Dave, although that is a huge life change, it sounds like a change for the better!! Have you moved already or are you in the process? It will be stressful during your recovery but it sounds like you will have a great support system there too. Best of luck!!
and, congrats on the baby front!! You may be able to use that insomnia to your advantage soon
