Post Op- do you ever feel like.....

...you are reclaiming the younger days that you missed out on due to your weight?  Sometimes I feel like now that I have all this confidence, I look for opportunities to do some of the things that I either couldn't do, or chose not to do because I was self-conscious.

For example; I have always LOVED to dance.  I never really did too much of the night club thing, because I always got too sweaty and felt horrible around all of the tiny little girls.  Now, I feel like I'd love to go out dancing, but so many of my friends are in the midst of raising toddlers and are out of this stage completely.  Sometimes I feel like I missed the boat on all of the young and crazy stuff.  Do you ever feel that way?

I am making a list of a whole bunch of things that I want to accomplish and experience that I never could do before.  Just small things, but that make an impact on me.  Some things on my list are:  go dancing at a club, do a chin up (just want to be able to say I can do one!), go indoor rock climbing...etc...

Do you have a weight-loss bucket list of simple and random goals you'd like to see yourself accomplish?

I have a bucket list of sorts. A lot of it revolves around work and finding a job a love - going back to school and following my dreams.

BUT aside from work...I'm opening up myself more to the idea of dating. I never really saw myself as a viable partner for anyone but that's changed. I know it's because I have more confidence and I'm seeing myself differently. I'm seeing my positives and I'm seeing all the great things I CAN offer someone

Totally get what you mean! Being the fat girl in high school and in rez always made socializing more difficult.

I was thinking I can't wait to go downtown on Canada day and wear white shirts and a red tank top. I was always too self concsious to wear anything but capris and a t-shirt.

I would like to go out to bars and be talked to as a person, and not just see their backs as they hit on my friends. Nightlife has always been cruel to me. It'll be nice when Is top being defined by my weight and start being given a chance to show my humour and intellect!

Another thing is dating. Only freaks were ever interested in me. It'd be nice to meet a decent guy!  To not be the third  wheel, or shaped like one, will be nice.

I'd like to leave the house with a friend and not look like the number 10.

Have fun dancing!

Y'know what's really sad...I've had a few really nice guys interested in me and I always turned them down because I'd think "what's wrong with them that they'd want to date a fat girl?"  I thought THEY were the freaks...turns out...it was me!  LOL!  Okay...I'm not a freak, but the issue was mine, not theirs.

Well that's good, hopefully you'll be more receptive now when a nice guy courts you!

Unfortuntely for me, decent guys were never interested in me.

That's interesting!  I've always liked guys who are interested in larger women.  But then, I've always been very open to dating larger men.

My issue is kind of the opposite of yours, Simona.

I once lost 100 lbs and got down to around 160 lbs.  (I have a lot more to lose now to get to that point, since I'm over 300 lbs now!)  My issue is that once I lost that weight and more guys started showing interest, I got resentful.  I resented them for being interested when I was thinner.  I was like, "Where the hell were you when I was fat, you shallow creep?"  And I have the feeling that I will still have those feelings once I lose weight after surgery.

I'm happy that I found my lovely husband before surgery, because I'll never feel like that about him.  He loved me fat, and he'll love me thin.  And if, heaven forbid, I should fail at this, he'll still love me.

But when men hit on me once I'm thin, I'll never know whether they would have been interested, or if they would accept me no matter what my size, no matter what they say.

Definitely, and I danced my butt off on Friday night!  I can't say being larger ever stopped me from dancing, but I definitely have more stamina!  I feel younger than I did, 5 years ago!

Can I just say I LOVE my WLS?!

I did miss out on a lot of things because of my weight, but I haven't really started to think about what I'd like to do now. Even though my weightloss isn't finished. That's a good list to start. Great idea.
