I'm curious about when people stopped (or if they did at all?) taking protein supplements, either shakes or bars. I can get in 60g of protein from food most days, but I usually still have a protein shake on those days. I think I feel better at closer to 80g of protein a day...but is this just my imagination?
Should I be eliminating the shake because I've reached the 60g minimum and saving myself the extra 150 calories that are in my shake? Sometimes I only drink half a shake...but I tend to want to bring myself up to 80g of protein. I don't notice a difference in weight loss with a higher intake of protein.
When did you quit or change how you use protein supplements and did this have any impact on your health or weight loss?

After the weeks of being on liquids and mush I didn't drink a shake for a very long time.
Joe's would like you to eat "real food" as much as possible. I started drinking shakes again more than a year out.
I'd say if drinking the shake makes your body fell better than go for it. I wouldn't worry about the 150 calories, especially if you are still losing. and the 60g is a minimum.
Sounds like you are doing everything right!

I am sure I get over 60g of protein a day and have been off powder since my one month follow-up.
I do have protein bars daily as my snacks for the simple fact that they are easy, convenient and portable.
I am hooked on "The Simply Bar" brand. They are low calorie and low sugar with 16g of protein.....and rather yummy :)

Like everyone else said, once I was getting 80 grams of protein a day, I gave up the shakes. I never have had a bar. Occasionally, when I'm particulary hungry in the morning, I will make a protein coffee and if I'm trying to make something more protein rich, I'll add some no flavoured protein to it, banana bread for example.
Hang in there your stall will break!

MORE protein is good, as long as it is not super high calorie. Good for your hair, your nails, your skin, your bones...
I think that protein is only limited to make sure that everyone has a relatively balanced diet. Me, I could eat good proteins (meat and beans) and veggies and oatmeal and be happy forever.

Hi Sandy

Who knows, but I definitely feel better too with more protein. Much less carb cravy, less hunger, and more energy.
Should I be eliminating the shake because I've reached the 60g minimum and saving myself the extra 150 calories that are in my shake?
That's a matter of personal choice I think. For what it's worth, the nutrionist said that the "quality" of the protein in shakes and power bars is no better or worse than that of home made food - just more concentrated and (for me) convenient.
I don't notice a difference in weight loss with a higher intake of protein.
You probably would if you dropped your protein levels and replaced those calories with carb or fat calories.
When did you quit or change how you use protein supplements and did this have any impact on your health or weight loss?
As an example, "maintenance" protein requirements for me at 145 lbs & 5'4" are 120 g / day! So, to get that all in (because my pouch hasn't changed), I will probably use supplements all my life. As for health ... ditto to the comment that protein is good for your hair / nails / etc., and I TRULY BELIEVE also keeps the cravings away . I never eat anything now without some protein in the snack or meal!

I find I can add an extra 18 g of protein by adding a scoop of unflavoured powder to my Source yogurt. Doesn't change the flavour of the yougurt at all. As mentioned the extra protein is not going to hurt you. Rather have too much than too little that is for sure. BTW, adding the powder to Source yogurt cost less than greek yogurt in the long run.
