Great little homemade fruit gummy recipe (SF, no carb)

I made these today and they are ultra easy and very satisfying! No carbs, and sugar free. I also made them for my kids (without the aspertame), and they loved them. If anyone cooks with protein powder, I am wondering if there is a way to dissolve or blend it into the gelatin during the cooking process??

Jello Fruit Chewy Snacks

*3 oz. SF jello; any flavour

*0.5 oz. of unflavoured gelatin

*1/3 cup of water [Or you can add a low sugar juice to make the flavour more intense. Anything
flavoured would work- and it's only 1/3 cup. For my kids, I used V8 Fusion]

*PAM spray

*cornstarch (just to dust candies with afterwards ***optional)

*some sort of mold (small ice cube tray filled 1/4 of the way; Ikea has cheap and funky silicone trays in all sorts of shapes; I bought some candy molds in hearts and stars from Michaels for the kids)
__________________________________________________________________________________

1) Spray molds lightly with PAM.

2) Add the water or juice to a small pot; sprinkle jello and unflavoured gelatin on top

3) Heat over medium heat until it all dissolved; stir often (mine got to boiling- turned out fine)

4) Pour into lightly greased mold and let sit for 7-10 minutes on the counter

5) Remove from molds into plastic baggie or conatiner with lid. Add a small bit of cornstarch and skae until coated- just to prevent stickiness)

VOILA! Yummy little fruit snacks for an occasional treat. Just have to learn how to add protein to them now!

Sounds yummy.  I hope someone has some suggestions for adding protein.  That would sure help getting the protein in.  Thanks for sharing.

i wonder if you used one of those clear protein drinks, and used unflavoured gelatin?

like, replace all of the jello with a package of unflavoured gelatin, dissolve it in the boiling water, and flavour it with the protein 'water'.

I think I will try it this weekend just adding some protein powder. I don't see why it would not just desolve with the hot fluids.

protein tends to clump up with heat (think egg whites, nearly pure protein), it doesnt do well in heat.

I think if you mixed the protein with some cold liquid and stirred until it was well incoporated, then you could mix the HOT liquid into it, BUT I would let the hot liquid cool down first and stir well while blending the two.

Or you could mix the protein into the pot of cold water with the jello and gelatin and heat SLOWLY that should stop it from curdling, I wouldn't let it boil though.

I have an issue with gelatin so I've been looking for agar to try these jelly like treats.

1 cup unsweetened applesauce
2 Tbsp. brown rice syrup, agave nectar, or maple syrup (or more, to taste--depending on how sweet your applesauce is.) - I would use SF Syrup
2 tsp. agar powder

1. Mix all of the ingredients together in a small non-stick saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, and then turn down the heat to low.  Simmer for 20-30 minutes, until the liquid in the applesauce has evaporated and the mixture is reduced by about one half.  Be sure to stir periodically so that the applesauce doesn't burn to the bottom of the pan.
2. Lightly oil your candy molds or a shallow pan and spoon in the applesauce mixture. Chill for 30 mins. to an hour, until totally set. At this point, if you just poured the mixture into a shallow pan, you can dice it into little finger-sized bits. Store the fruit snacks in a covered container in the fridge.

Sounds yummy, I think I am going to try it.
Doesn't gelatin have protein in it?  Most gelatin is made from animal tissue.
