Perception

I am doing my own rant and vent....

yet again someone asked me what size I was - "what, you must be a size 1 or something ridiculous"

me-  nope, just happy to be a 10/12

them -really, that is not possible, you are so tiny

me --nope, just looks that way

them - how much do you weigh ?

I never remember anyone asking me how much I weighed when I was 110 heavier-- most times I don't give any comments, , I just smile and say "who me, tiny, you must be kidding, or thanks, I worked hard or thanks for the compliment " but sometimes, just sometimes...   enough already, give me break, is there nothing else to talk about besides how I look.

I actually grabbed a co-worker and went to the nurses office and jumped on the scale to show her - 147 lbs - she was so shocked, that the number on the scale was not the number in her head and my pant size what alot bigger than she thought - body types are different and perception is individual.  ......................and she never asked me again !!!

Holy Crap People !!!

Easy answer: "I don't really feel comfortable sharing my weight or clothing size.  That's personal."

Our heads (the outside) get skinner than our bodies, or get skinnier faster than our hips.

I'm about that weight and sent a picture to my aunt who freaked out about how skinny I was.

A woman who said to me after my surgery. What you don't have will power!" No makes comments about how much more are you going to lose as if I was already too think. I weigh 174 and wear a 16 or 18 depending on the pants. She's probably an 8. I just say I want to get healthy and leave it at that

I totally relate. A coworker I rarely see told me I was tiny. I think those that have always been thin don't know how to compliment us without discussing numbers - size, weight etc.

I'd be happy for people to stop asking when when I am due!

It's amazing the balls some people have to ask very intimate questions!

When I had lost weight before my family told me frequently enough is enough, but that's just because it changed the dynamic of the family. Too bad I didn't relish that at the time! Perhaps this is the case for you too! It's gonna happen soon for me and I cannot wait!

I think I've posted this before but there is a stand up comic who has a routine about this topic - suggesting a woman is pregnant when in fact they are not.  He basically said that unless you see a baby coming out of a woman's vagina you are not allowed to say a word.  I wish I could remember who the comic is because it was pretty funny.

A lady at my work called me 'a little gaunt' the other day. I find it odd, and truly a bit laughable at this point. I'm 5'2" and 130lbs. That is just barely inside the normal BMI range. People are just used to seeing us much bigger and the weight loss is so fast that it is difficult for people to adjust. Rapid weight loss is so often associated with illness, that people are often concerned. I'm still wearing a size 8, so I'll worry when I get to the bottom of the BMI range for my height or a size 2 is getting baggy...

I had OHIP approved Duodenal Switch surgery with Dr. Dennis Hong at St. Joseph's Hamilton on March 7th, 2012. Want more information on the DS in Ontario? Send me a private message!
