Pasta
Hi all,
It has been a while since I have posted...pop in every once in a while to read some post. Summer has flown by this year!!
Just a quick question for the vets, I am 3 1/2 months post op, and purchased a Healthy choice steamer for lunch. Did anyone find that eating pasta slowed down your weight loss.
How many calories should we be taking in at this time?
Joanne
Hi Joanne: Good to hear from you! Myself I am not able to tolerate pasta and it's so high in carbs I don't mind. I always try to get my protein in first. You might want to check with your clinic to see what they recommend for how many calories you should be having right now.
Good luck on your journey!
Hi Joanne,
I do have pasta once in a while (but not very often -- maybe once or twice a month). I do limit the amount (to no more than 1 cup), and usually plan it for days when I know that I'll be getting a good workout (like a kickboxing day).
My centre did suggest that I could add pasta to my meals as an alternate starch component.
I haven't found that it slowed down my weight loss.
As to the calories you should be taking in, it will depend on your activity level. At 3.5 months out, I was probably taking in about 800 calories a day, but when I went in for my 6 month meeting, they wanted me to up my calories to closer to 1400 calories given my activity level. I think each person is different, and talking to your Centre will help you determine what's right for you.
Hoe this is helpful.

wow your asking vets this quesiton..most of us (I mostly) can`t remember what I had for lunch 3 days ago.
I have never been able to really eat more than a couple of forkfuls of pasta and I am almost 6 years post-op....especially spaghetti..I will put 4 forkfuls on my plate along with 2-3 homemade meatballs and because y concentration is still on protein...I might have a bite or two of pasta and that`s it.
sorry I have NO clue how many calories you should be ingesting at 3 1/2 months..but I am sure someone just ahead of you in the losing process will know
definatly watch the salt and sugar in ANY premade dinner you buy in the store..always continue to read labels
prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.
life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!. Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!

Hey girl, long time no see!!! I am three months out this Wednesday. Personally, I will go nowhere near those type of carbs, not this early post op anyway. They may not impact weight loss, but for me could be a trigger, one that I am not about to start screwing with. I am enjoying my no hunger phase and taking advantage of it. Bored of foods, yup, but who cares, there are a ton of different recipes out there, just too lazy or whatever to make them, but seriously, if you NEED to eat pasta, I would be very careful with amounts, if at all.
Vets can and will chime I am sure, they are the best to help us out. This is just my two cents for what they are worth.
Nice to see you back, hope your doing well?
