Measuring

Hi everyone. I see what people are eating and it's all measured out. How do you know how much you can have from the different food groups?  I'm only 12 days post op and can't wait for puréed food. But when I'm past all the stages, how do I know what and how much to measure?

Hello, did your centre give you booklets? You should have guidelines on the different stages, how long they last, foods/liquids you can have, how to prepare them and the amount. Then you may go for a one month post op class where they teach you more about the next stage and your lifelong eating. If you don't have this I suggest you call your centre - the dietician / nutritionist will have information for you.

Good luck on your journey!

Nikki

Nikita Banana is right. Hopefully you have some support from your centre. In addition, I'd suggest checking out the Rny daily meal thread for ideas.

I can only speak for my self, but at about 2 months out, i try for 60g of protein, under 40 carbs usually closer to 20, and around 500 calories per day. Some days is closer to 600.

my centre didn't give calorie guidelines, I based them on what I read here from the vets.

I was going to say to check out the Daily Meny thread on the RNY forum as well.  Such a great source of information.  Lots of people who have lost the weight and are keeping it off. Here's a link to today's so you can see. It's not only about menus, there's a lot of camraderie and encouragement- but they are also straight shooters.  You will get an honest answer/opinion whether you ask for it or not.

What's on your Menu today (Thursday) RNYers?

Hi, for the first 12 - 18 months you really shouldn't worry about the food groups!  You should be eating protein first, to meat your goals and then if you have room you can add some non starchy veg.  Early on there is little room for anything but protein.  Your centre will push you to eat balanced meals but its just not realistic.

Use the information as a guideline for quantity but honestly avoid carbs as long as you can.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!
