HI everyone ,,,a LURKER
Hi all
I am a lurker . I read almost everyday but seldom post .. I have learned so much though through most these ladies .. Newby's coming here can not go wrong ..
Everyone is always so welcoming and kind for the most part.
I am on the Alabama board but it isnt really active much anymore ..
I saw once where all the people would post something about themselves so everyone would feel they knew whom they were talking to so I will start..
Hi , I am Shirley . I am 58 , or will be on JULY 5, feel 40 , had RNY in 2003 and have not had any real problems other than low iron ( Ferritin iron ) , which I have to take iron infusins for about every 4 - 6 months . UNLESS your checked for this on a regular basis , you may have it and not know it until the bottom drops out like mine did ..
That is what happens they are discovering with RNY'ers long term I was told ..
I live in Ala , work full time at the same place for 22 and half years now .
I have 2 sons grown , ( one passed away 2 years ago) and have an aging mom who is a diabetic with heart issues, high BP and all the other things that go with it . THUS , my RNY ..
I do exerciuse EVERYDAY for a min of 30 minutes and that is 7 days a week .
I go to the gym put the treadmill on 10 incline and climb the mountain :) at a fairly fast pace . I Do that everyday and add weights etc as time allows.
Without that , I gain ...
I have a wonderful littlle ****apoo named Sassy who doesnt realize she is a dog ..
Have a wonderful week ladies ..
Hugs and blessings

Welcome Shirley.
We are a pretty friendly bunch. Questions? Those with the same experience will try to help?
NSV's and/or SV's we are anxious to hear about them and thrilled for you.
Need a shoulder to cry on, or someone to vent to, we are here.
We are bandsters, RNYers, some have sleeves, some are just starting the research.
Your experiences will be a welcome addition to the group.
Again, welcome! Pull up a chair and sit a spell!

Welcome Shirley and keep posting, I think the first time you post can be a little scary for some.
I'm Debbie, age 55 years young and getting younger by the minute!
I had a Gastroplasty in 1980 so I'm termed as a "revision" to RNY. I've had a pretty easy ride because I chose exercise as my "transfer addiction" before I even had my RNY. I'm a gym rat and love taking different classes.
The gym kinda came to a halt when I had emergency small bowel obstruction. Still have some pain but I'm pushing through it. I'm not a whimp, I just keeping looking forward and not back.
I have a wonderful hubby who has 3 grown daughters who love me as I am. With that comes 4 beautiful grandchildren with a 5th one due in October. It's a boy and he is all ready named: David Joseph after the grandpa's.
I'm living the life I've always wanted. My first hubby didn't want children. We had been together since the 7th grade. So both me and my new hubby of almost 3 years (and I lived with him for 2 years before we got married) have come from long term marriages, me with 27 years and hubby with 25 years. We are soul mates and will be together for the rest of our lives.
We have 3 dogs, Ellie the little sheltie, Jake and Sophie half chihuahua and half peekapoo, they are siblings, all 3 are lap dogs. We have an inside cat named Charlie and several outside cats because we live in the country and they are dropped off. We feed them and they aren't wild. They are friendly.

Hi Shirley,
Thanks for coming out of hiding and letting us know about yourself, it's always great to have a new person join us here and having someone with 8 years post-op experience sharing their wisdom is always a good thing. . .
I am Laureen, will be 56 next week, had my RNY in October 2007, lost close to 100 lbs. from my highest weight, pre-surgery, and am up 23 lbs. from that low point, due to slacking off on the gym. Got back in the gym in January and then got a darn heel spur that kept me out of it again, until I could not stand it any more, so I wrapped my foot and got myself back there, it's been 4 weeks now and as of this morning I finally saw a small reward on the scale for all my sweat equity, lost 2 lbs., so now I have 13 to 18 to go, depending on how I feel when I get back to 166, as my original goal was 150 and when I got to 156, my face looked very gaunt, so at 165/6 I felt that Iooked good and was happy there, so was my surgeon ;)
I have 3 grown children, a son who is 37 and has my youngest two grandchildren, Vaughn 5-3/4 and Avery, 4, he lives near me, two daughters, both of whom live in Florida, the eldest of the two at 35, has my older two grandchildren, Samantha who is 13, Dylan who is 9-3/4, the younger of my daughters is a nurse and not yet married nor does she have any children. I have a brother 10-1/2 years younger than me, who I wish would consider some sort of health change as he is probably about 375 to 390 lbs. unsure of any health issues because he does not go to the doctor regularly, he thinks what I did was fantasic, talked about the band, but he has not pursued anything. . . oh well, I can pray for him to do something before it is too late.
I live with two roommates in a house I purchased for myself 8 years ago, but with costs skyrocketing, taxes and losing my NY job where I made considerably more money, I have had to get roommates to supplement and be able to pay the mortgage and bills. My roommates and I have a common denonimator in that we are all in recovery from Alcoholism, I am sober 24 years next month, they are sober 24 and 22 years, so it makes things interesting some days (lol). I also live with one very pampered Rottweiler, named Roxie, who is the healer of broken hearts, as when my dear Dillinger died 18 months ago, I was broken hearted, decided to look online at rescues and into my heart came this very sweet natured beauty, she was 3 when I adopted her, came from a loving home, great with people, kids and other dogs, her owners just could not afford her anymore. I believe the spirit of Dillinger brought her to me, as she was surrendered to the shelter on the very same day I had to put him to his rest and his birthdate was 11-15 and hers is 1-15 and she has become the Queen to what was once his Kingdom. . .I have a boyfriend who is an absolute wonderful man, he treats me and my Roxie girl like queens and was instrumental in my adopting her and helps (mostly) pays for all the things she needs.
I am also a support group leader at the facility where I had my surgery and that is a very rewarding thing, as well as helps keep me accountable, while I and all the other leaders where I do this stress that we are patients first and therefore fallable, I certainly can't help others if I'm not doing the same things I am stressing that they need to do. I also recently started to post a "combating regain" post, that I will do twice a week, because that is a word that keeps cropping up for those of us further out and if you lurk you already read those posts from last week, so I won't recount them here. . .
So there, now you know about me. . . lol
Again, welcome, glad to have you!

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

Hi Shirley! Welcome to OFF! There is a great group of ppl here. We share weight loss and other happenings. Sometimes venting, sometime cheering. Always supportive and caring.
My name is Kristi. I'm almost 51 (Oct), pre-op hoping for wls by the end of July or early August. I'll have my consult with the surgeon on 7/19 and get my date then. Ready for a change.
I live on the coast of NC, work on an island for a vacation rental property management company. I handle damages caused by guests and get the repairs done. I also look for silly things like DVD player remotes that are sitting right next to the TV/DVD player.
I have 4 children, all adults ages from 25 to 33, sometimes they are grown up. Oldest daughter, SIL & 2 boys are in Germany in the Army. Oldest son is my problem child, separated with 1 yr old son & baby girl due in Oct. He's so wishy-washy and unsettled, many psychological problems. Youngest son is married with 2 little girls. He got out of the Army and moved my DIL, 1 yr old & 3 yr old into my house. Now *****esn't want me around and in HER space...long story...My youngest daughter is married, with almost 6 yr old (July) daughter. SIL is ex-Marine, going to college for law enforcement and graduating in Oct. They live about 10 minutes away.
I've been divorced from the kid's dad for almost 16 yrs. Met my friend's youngest brother about 14 1/2 yrs ago and we have been together ever since. Not married, but lived across the yard from each other until my kids invaded my territory last Sept. and I moved in with him. Ready for them to move out...long story...
No pets right now but had a darling Pit-Dalmation mix named Pooh Bear that we adored. She didn't think she was a dog, either. She loved Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream cookies and yogurt. We had her out one day in the yard while we were installing a window a/c. A bad storm came up, lightning flashed close to the house. We thought she ran into the garage, but never found her. We did a door-to-door, searched the woods, and went to the Humane Society several times, but she never came home. That's been over 7 years ago. I have to believe that someone else found our lost angel and she has been loved all these years.
I have 2 brothers & 1 sister. I recently reconnected with my younger brother on facebook after he estranged himself from the family after our dad died in 91. I truly understand why. My older brother & I have always had a good relationship, sometimes needing to communicate in secret. My sister & I have never got along as she can't find anything positive about me. There is nothing about me that she likes. She has my mother's ear and my mother tells me that I need to be nicer and apologize...I'm not sure what for. Good grief, we are 50 & 52. It's never going to change. Again, an extremely long story...So I just don't contact her or react to her aggresive behaviors.
Other than that, life is good. Taking charge of myself and re-creating who I am. Half a century is too long to waste.
Hugs,
Kristi

Hi Shirley! Welcome to OFF!
I got a little tickle out of your name. My mom's name is also Shirley and her last name initial is also G. She's been Shirley G for a long time. Now I have a second Shirley G!
I'm 54 and married 30 years to the love of my life. He works overseas, and is gone a month, then home a month, so I spend a lot of time alone (which you will hear me b*tch and moan about if you come here often!). I have two grown daughters, ages 29 and 26, and one perfectly beautiful little grandson who will be ONE year old this week! Life is good!
I also have two furbabies, Patty Kate and Lulu, who are little rat terriers and they are just my babies, too. And I have a little herd of deer down here at the lake who are also my babies. I feed them every day and they are so sweet to watch.
I'm coming up on 4 months post-op and I truly don't know how I would have made it without this wonderful group of friends on OFF. They offer so much love and support and wisdom. I feel very connected and safe here. So please quit lurking and come on in!
