You'll need to be off narcotics for 24 hours before you can drive. So.. it'll depend. My arms and breasts were pretty pain free and I felt good enough to go to the movies on Friday - my surgery was Monday. Although I didn't drive. Then I drove myself to my follow-up on Tuesday, so 8 days post-op. (This was after my mastopexy/UBL. I did my arms with my LBL.) The one thing I'd be concerned about in your case is range of motion for arms to be safe driving. But I think that's something only you can know.

So it's possible :)

You should ask your surgeon, but "elevated" tends to me "above your heart." You likely wouldn't have the range of motion to have your arms over your head anyway immediately post-op.

I would think in a week you would be OK to drive short distances, as long as you are off pain meds. I probably waited 2 weeks, but I did not need to go anywhere.

Another pressing question,

How soon were you able or felt like driving?

My DH has Alzheimer's and is in a memory community. He's excited about the surgery; perv, does the motorboating sound ?. He"s less than 5 minutes away from me and I've made arrangements for him along with my Fsurgerysupport team. He usually does well while I'm traveling with our daily phone calls. It's around the 6th day he starts to miss my physical presence.

My surgeon knows I'm a caregiver; that said, I've waited 7 years to have the surgery.

I know we heal and experience pain at different levels. I've read ranges from 5 days to 13 days postoperative. Just curious.

Thank you for replying Laura, makes much more sense to me.

I'm continuing to make my list and get everything ready. My son will be returning from deployment after 8 months away. He's stationed at Little Creek, don't know the exact day but it'll be a week or so before my surgery. Doubly excited about everything!

I keep reading "arms elevated"; to me, that reads arms up & over which equals NO sleep

I was also told to elevate my arms, but that did not mean to raise them above my head. When I was sitting, I kept them raised horizontally with pillows. In bed. I slept on my back and rested my arms on pillows on either side. I think I did that for about 2 weeks. I returned to work 17 days after my bracioplasty. I felt well enough to return after about 10 days but it was Christmas break and I had another week of vacation left.

I didn't sleep in a recliner at all for my arms - why would you? Why would you sleep with your arms over your head?

I did my due diligence, deposit to save the date & now to get my surgery survival basket together. My surgeon nearly died of laughter when I told him I'd be happy with 34AA's-cofounder of the itty-bitty club?

Pressing question of the moment-I don't have a recliner, but I do have one of those adjustable beds. For the arm lift, how long did you sleep in recliner? I'm trying to visualize sleeping with arms over my head.

The prices were comparable to others mentioned here. The one reoccurring comment was-a surgeon who understands and knows WLS skin.
