Topic: RE: Surgeon doesn?t do LBL in one procedure?

My surgeon Dr. Joseph Michaels in the Washington DC area, specializes in plastic surgery after massive weight loss. He's a miracle worker. I had an LBL and BL in one surgery, and an arm lift six months later. I am still beyond ecstatic at my results.

My post with pics.

Pretty much you just suck it up and do it. In the scheme of things it will really suck for about 1 week and then life will be considerably better and you'll make gains every day! Plus, just think - 6 weeks from now you'll be ready for the beach!

Topic: RE: Surgeon doesn?t do LBL in one procedure?

I am having an abdominoplasty and mastopexy with Douglas Forman on Friday. He doesn't do the front and back at the same time either because he says that it causes stretching on the incisions in opposite directions making it harder to heal. I know of many surgeons who do the complete LBL (front and back) in one procedure and people are happy, but I am willing to take my surgeon's word for it that it will mean better healing for me.

I booked a consult with a PS reasonably local to me and had a good chat with his office manager. Much to my surprise, he does not do LBL in one step. Instead, he does the tummy tuck first and then the back at least 6 months later.

The surgeon was one of three in the province recommended by the provincial bariatric program and I've heard wonderful things from a past patient; her scars are beautiful!!! I was hoping to have everything done in one go, but now I'm wondering if recover and infection control would be easier in a staged process. Has anyone done it this way?

Topic: Feeling anxious

Morning folks! My PS is scheduled for this Friday and I am starting to feel anxious about it. I am having an extended mastopexy and extended abdominoplasty done with Douglas Forman, and I trust his skills, so that isn't what I am nervous about. What I am worried about is the pain and difficulty in moving that seems to be part of recovery from tightening the abdomen. I have been reading past posts and I'm really not looking forward to this. I definitely want the results, the loose skin really bothers me, but the recovery time has me worried.

I've prepared as much I know how, bought a power-lift recliner, have my arnica tablets and gel, lots of fluids and protein on hand, bought a shower chair, more pillows for propping. Now I just have to walk through it.

Any thoughts, encouragement, advice on how to make it through the tough time?

Thanks and I'll keep you all posted!

Janet

Topic: RE: Scheduling Surgery Date?

My weight loss ended in December, and I met with my first plastic surgeon in January. After that meeting I was very excited to get plastics done, but realized timing for me was going to be key (I have a will be 3 year old at home ) so I didn't dive into anything right away. And I am glad I didn't because it gave me a chance to see what life is like when the weight loss stops, adjusting my battle to maintenance rather then weight loss.

Now I am scheduled to go in this summer, so I'll be like 7 months at maintenance weight, which is a length of time both my surgeon and I are comfortable with.

I keep watching Skin Tight from TLC, and watching people regain after their surgeries is heartbreaking/scary!

Stay tuned!

Honestly tight is not exciting right now. It hurts, is mostly gas swelling, surgery swelling, and overly tight compression garments.

Please stay longer if you can unless you have someone seriously capable of caring for you full time. I've had 3 friends come by today for help and another is coming tonight. And it's just plain uncomfortable everywhere even drugged. And alone you really can't do anything about it!

and I think my left knee hurts the most! From the lipo. The right not at all. Go figure.

Oops, reply meant for Marinagirl. I blame Valium. He has a wonderful bedside manner. Even brought me Premier protein shakes in the recovery center when he saw I couldn?t eat and didn?t like liquid protein options they had.

II ended up ordering some via Amazon Prime. They were at the center in an hour and they moved a fridge in about 10 minutes later. Super nice nurses too.
